Democrats pushing the envelope

WASHINGTON, April 2 (UPI) -- Congressional Democrats are pushing up against U.S. President Bush on several fronts as they try to reshape the nation's approach on a number of major issues.

Democrats would appear to be on solid footing on such issues as immigration, healthcare and Social Security, but even stalwarts such as Leon Panetta, a top aide for former President Bill Clinton, recommends caution heading into areas such as unionization of airport security workers and rolling back provisions of the Patriot Act, The Washington Post reported Monday.

"If they go into total confrontation mode on these other things, where they just pass bills and the president vetoes them, that's a recipe for losing seats in the next election," Panetta said.

Bush has only vetoed one bill so far but has threatened to kill 16 bills the Democrats have put forth this year.

"I suppose there's always a risk of going too far," said House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., "but the risk of not going is far greater."

Rep. Tom Cole of Oklahoma, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said Democrats could pay a "political price" at the polls if they go "past the point where the American people are comfortable."

I agree and I think the MORE they do try to just ram new laws and things down the POTUS’ throat...the better for us.

That article today about Hillary maybe calling Rudy Guiliani in front of a Senate hearing, regarding the health problems of the responders to 9/11....IMHO>..WOULD just look like dirty politics as this point.

She has had 6 years to ask for a hearing...but waits until Rudy is beating her in the polls for POTUS???

Go ahead, Hillary...just try it.

Insanity is infectious with the democrats. Once they think they have a good thing going, the all catch the bug and make everyone sick. I do hope they keep up their insanity.

“If they go into total confrontation mode...”

Excuse me? They’ve been combative, confrontational and unproductive for SEVEN YEARS now and have basically been given a pass each time. What do they have to lose? We don’t stand up to them. President Bush certainly doesn’t...but it would be wonderful if he were to go out slashing and burning with 16 vetoes.

I’ll wait for Veto Number Two and then get excited. A girl can hope! ;)

Don't forget, Steny has to answer to the leftwing moonbats, too.
