Teachers are dropping controversial subjects such as the Holocaust and the Crusades from history lessons because they do not want to offend children from certain races or religions, a report claims.

A lack of factual knowledge among some teachers, particularly in primary schools, is also leading to “shallow” lessons on emotive and difficult subjects, according to the study by the Historical Association.

When the kids see these things on the History Channel, will they realize they were lied to in school?

I say offend everybody if it is historical truth and bear up under the horror of it all! As one who has been teaching for 45 years, this rule would have been immediately ignored. The Left in college sure don’t mind hating and branding conservs, Christians, and our American heritage. What evil demonic rats! Offend Muslims and anyone else if it is the truth. I could care less about the poor little self images of kids. They already rule their parents at home most of the time anyhow1 LOL

British teachers and their forgotten memories. I’ll bet the war veterans haven’t forgotten the people that survived.

That’s one group of POW’s that the EU will be very sorry for forgetting to honor.

For goodness sakes..don’t teach the past..it might offend!! I don’t know about England..maybe their children are “underteached” as ours are.. in the name of funding. But given the beating England took during WWII from the Germans, this is horribly curious.

>This is beyond belief.<

Not really. This is the way nations die ...... from within.

Wait a second. Why are people who lack proper qualifications to teach history teaching history?

Perhaps this is is like the like the battle in the U.S. to retain Christian holidays, etc. And you are so correct. But I fear people, in the most part won’t “look for the truth”. The minorities will prevail..because they speak louder.

I imagine England as having terminal cancer without any painkillers. The vision of their approaching death is very clear.

Since when do the teachers decide what books are used in any school district?

When I was a kid, the school board and the parents made those decisions.

If the teachers are picking and chosing what they will teach, then fire them all.
These kids are growing up now with less than an education. They don’t need to be any more uneducated.

In Texas it's made at the state level. Local school districts can only choose textbooks from the approved list.

That’s right - public school is no longer about educating children or teaching them to think. Public school is about creating manageable adults.

“I guess it is okay to offend whites.”

You did not get the memo.

White people are not subject to:
1. Hate crimes
2. Being offended
3. Free college tuition

But did your history classes ever mention that the slave traders in west Africa were Muslims?

And that British Christian Fundamentalists were the wellspring for the abolition of slavery worldwide?

I can hardly imagine that being the most trouble you had to deal with. I went to a public school that was so liberal that if you were Christian you had to keep your mouth shut 24/7 or risk getting suspended for “religious intolerance” (code word for religion) which any student could accuse you of and you would be punished without prior investigation. If a teacher decided to accuse you of “religious intolerance”, you could be presented before the police or even expelled.
