In just three weeks, Fred Thompson has transformed the contest for the Republican presidential nomination. It is not merely that he has come from nowhere to double digits in polls. He is the talk of GOP political circles because he is filling the conservative void in the field.
Republican activists have complained for months that none of the Big Three -- Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney-- fits the conservative model of a conservative leader for a conservative party. The party faithful have been waiting for another Ronald Reagan. But in conversations with them the past year, nobody mentioned Thompson as the messiah until he appeared March 11 on "Fox News Sunday."
Thompson was surprised by the reaction to his statement that he was "giving some thought" to running. In the first Gallup Poll that listed Thompson (conducted March 23-25), he scored 12 percent -- amazing for someone out of public life for more than four years who has not campaigned. More important is his backing within the political community. Buyer's remorse is expressed by several House members who endorsed Romney, the former Massachusetts governor.

The Party has a system.
Members of that Party who wish to be elected to political office, campaign for the votes of the membership during the primaries, and one gets chosen at the Party's Convention.
I would probably be a quicker, cheaper procedure if the Party's leadership just called you and asked you whom to nominate so that they could get YOUR vote, but then, they'd have to do that with everyone.
If you are a registered Republican, and you do not vote for the candidate chosen by the membership of the Party, then you are a Republican in Name Only...a RINO.
If you "would rather have Hillary" ("A LIBERAL") for any reason whatsoever, because you expect the Party to oppose her policies because they are liberal, EVEN IN LIGHT of the fact that you claim that you would rather have her than a Liberal nominated by the GOP, then you're either a liberal yourself, or just plain stupid.
“I believe that government should not interfere with individual convictions and actions in this area.”
Government is government, whether Federal, State, County or Municipal, government is government.
Fred made it clear, “government should not interfere”.
Post them.
It sure beats that duh huh duhuh look we get from the moonbat left.
If you think this is bad, you should read his pro illegal immigration posts on immigration threads.
If you put Rudy in a pantsuit, maybe...I don't think I've ever seen the Hildebeast in a dress.
Hildebeast in a dress!! OH YES
It was an animal print that made big news. She looked awful and arrived late to a Kennedy party where Mrs. Bush was asked to leave after cocktails and Hillary arrived for dinner. Remember now? Very early in the Presidency...I think.
I wrote to Caroline as hostess and told her off and to Mrs. Bush and explained what I really thought of the Kennedys. I got a polite reply. I guess she and “W” didn’t listen, or care, since they have continued to let the Kennedys **** on them over and over.
I'l answer your question with a question...
Did you vote for this guy?
Yes, I did. Now would you please answer my question?
The answer to your question is that yes, depending on the circumstances, like you did I would vote for a Democrat who switched party affiliation.
P.S. My answer is far more honest than your question by the way.
The problem with posting here is that we often reply to specific posts without being aware of the history of the poster's other comments on that subject--I've probably posted 100 times that we must push hard for a conservative in the primaries, but support whoever wins the nomination to defeat HRC.
There's a little thing called the "primaries" you know. Maybe when Rudy wins the nomination I'll drag out the industrial-strength clothespin. But until then, he shouldn't be elected dog catcher.
Whatever, but everyone knows about the primaries, and frankly, any thinking person can look at the history of the recent primaries, the money being collected, the polls, etc. and see reality.
You asked a dishonest question.
There is no way that in the present political atmosphere, someone with Hillary’s stands on issues would simply “switch” to the GOP, nor would the GOP accept her.
While a portion of Rudy’s opinions on issues may be at odds with the mainstream GOP, ALL of Hillary’s opinions are.
Which means that in order for your scenario to happen, either Hillary would have undergone tremendous changes, or the GOP would have. Try as you may want to try, there is still a vast sea of difference between Rudy and Hillary, with no issue separating the two further apart than their stands on th War on Islamofascism.
Rudy appears willing to take the fight to them, and with her cut-and-run plan, Hillary wants to bring the war home to us.
So, if Hillary changed Party affiliations because her views changed sufficiently to mirror Giuliani’s, then yes, I’d vote for her.
If she came to a GOP that accepted her as she stands today, then I would have left the GOP long before her arrival.
So yes, yours was a dishonest question.
There was nothing dishonest about the question. Hillary could switch parties without the “acceptance” of anyone in the GOP. All she would have to do is file the necessary paperwork to run in the Republican primary. The acceptance part would come on election day, the same way we will see if the GOP “accepts” Rudy.
