Sailor Seizure 'Inexcusable' Updated: 22:33, Saturday March 31, 2007
Iran's seizure of 15 Royal Navy personnel has been described as "inexcusable behaviour" by US President George Bush.
In his first comments on the crisis, Mr Bush said he supported Britain's diplomatic efforts to get the captives back.
He said: "Iran must give back the hostages. They're innocent, they did nothing wrong, and they were summarily plucked out of water."

I mean that if the british ship had defended itself initially and not allowed these sailors/marines to be taken, these pictures wouldn't be there..
If the Iranians had not known that neither they nor mother ship had orders not to fire, they would not have acted so brazenly. Do you not think they have spies?
The british ship that was seized was nothing more than a little patrol craft for boarding onto incoming vessels.
The Iranians had several ships, mounted with machine guns.
The moment they'd pulled their pistols out, they'd have all been dead.
Most likely they do.
You are on a losing battle mate. It seems many here hate Britain more than Iran.
The issue is whether, given the choice, we fight when the capture was made, possibly resulting in some of their deaths. Or, the lack of a will to fight results in an emboldened Iran, and attacks in the future that kill far more people.
Iran knows Bush and Blair haven't the stones for more warfare now...
And your response would have been what?
Well, armed with my little pistol, facing several iranian navy vessels armed with machine guns, I would knowing I would not be harmed, hand myself over to save my life.
Honestly guys, I've been watching the fox news coverage of this, and to be honest, it makes me laugh. This is not like your hostage crisis, its completely different.
The Iranians are not going to harm these guys and they are almost certainly going to release them,
While it is mighty tough to fight to the death, it really isn't worth risking your life for in this paticular case.
That said, that doesn't mean I don't favour getting tough with them, because I damn well do.
Absolutely I do.
Why do you ask?
You're misinterpreting our passionate desire to see a country we love stop groveling and stand up for itself as hatred.
Just gauging your attitude to having the good guys armed and able to use what they are armed with.
What part is grovelling? Was Pres Bush grovelling to China when he said he was "very sorry" to China even though they took US aircrew as hostages for 13 days?
Did I miss those airstrikes?
What did I say about airstrikes?
If it were up to me and our navy personel had the weapons available, I'd certainly EXPECT them to fight the Iranians.
Given the specific cirumstances, I cannot blame them.
Well what is your specific criticism?
I wish I had your level of comfort. What makes you so certain? The Iranians have a long track record.
700 Iranians Protest Against The UK, 15 Captured Sailors
No one blames soldiers for surrendering. It happens all the time. The problem is that that British authorities were not prepared for this, and evidently are willing to accept the humiliation.
