UN rights council adopts global religious defamation act

Islamic countries pushed through a resolution at the UN Human Rights Council on Friday urging a global prohibition on the public defamation of religion, a response largely to the furor last year over caricatures published in a Danish newspaper of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad.

The statement proposed by the Organization of Islamic Conference addressed what it called a "campaign" against Muslim minorities and the Islamic religion around the world since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States.

The resolution, which was opposed by European and a number of other non-Muslim countries, "expresses deep concern at attempts to identify Islam with terrorism, violence and human rights violations."

It makes no mention of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism or any other religion besides Islam, but urges countries "to take resolute action to prohibit the dissemination of racist and xenophobic ideas and material aimed at any religion or its followers that constitute incitement and religious hatred, hostility, or violence."

Iran, whose President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly called for Israel to be "wiped off the map," belongs to the 57-member Islamic conference.

The resolution was adopted by a 24-14 vote with nine abstentions. Canada, Japan and South Korea joined European countries in opposition, primarily citing its excessive focus on Islam and incompatibility with fundamental rights such as the freedoms of speech and thought.

"The problem of religious intolerance is worldwide and not limited to certain religions," said Brigitta Maria Siefker-Eberle of Germany," speaking on behalf of the 27-nation European Union.

Ghana, India, Nigeria, Zambia and some of the council's Latin American countries abstained. There are 17 Muslim countries in the 47-nation human rights council. Their alliance with China, Cuba, Russia and most of the African members means they can almost always achieve a majority.

Human Rights Watch said the resolution could endanger the basic rights of individuals.

The document "focuses on protection of religions themselves, particularly Islam, rather than the rights of individuals, including members of religious minorities," the New York-based rights group said in a statement.

Every American non-Muslim citizen should post the Muhammed Bomb-Turban photo in their front yard with the caption "I use the Koran for toilet paper!". What's the U.N. gonna do then, haul us all in front of their kangaroo court?

Chocolate Jesus and Piss Christ are perfectly acceptable. Some religions are more equal than others.

"....prohibit the dissemination of racist and xenophobic ideas and material aimed at any religion or its followers that constitute incitement and religious hatred, hostility, or violence."

Oh ya. That'll sure fly in America. On second thought, as soon as they add the words "except towards Christians" it would probably pass.

The Chinese communist regime took a time out from beating Chinese Christians and harvesting the organs of Falun Gong prisoners to vote in favor of the resolution.

Let's see...
1. Militant Islam wants to take over the world.
2. UN bans saying anything that #1 deems "offensive" ... like pointing out that #1 wants to take over the world.
3. Any efforts to defend ourselves against #1 is banned by the UN...

VERY INTERESTING!!

Thanks for posting this. This is incredibly important. No one should grant special status to religion as an institution until every nation on this planet adopts the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The sponsors of this agenda have all refused to do so. I'll give religion a special status when everyone is free to worship the god of their choosing anywhere, anytime.

What a pathetic joke. China, Cuba, Russia, the African continent, and the Middle-East. Pustules on the surface of the earth. Add in Venezuela and North Korea and the list is complete.

Remind me why the modern world permits communists, Islamonazis, and third-world dictatorial thugdoms to decide anything? The UN should be left to these global backwaters alright. Just let them have it, it can be all theirs. They can trade carbon credits with each-other, mutually ass-scratch and pick fleas off each-others' backs.

Do these maroons realize they're about to shoot their foot off at the kneecap? With all the anti-semetic garbage the islamofacstist spew out on a daily basis, it would take oh about 6 hours before they could be called out on the carpet for violating a UN resolution. But hey, we know how tough the UN can be when you violate their resolutions.

Now what do we do? Oh sorry I missed the decree that gives the UN any control over a US citizen.I wish there was someone in the Govt. had the cojones to charge them rent for that property they occupy in Manhattan.Charge them with back rent and evict the communist sobs to Russia where they belong. This toothless org. hasn't achieved one single goal in its entire history that was not harmful to the US. Why couldn't that idiot have blown up the UN building with a plane?

I got a better idea. A global injunction saying anyone tearing down private property in a racial, religious,or my team just won the championship riot can be shot on sight by said owner of that property. Maybe the people who caused all that damage over a couple of cartoons need to see Allah, Buddha, or God about a sense of humor, and some control.

You seem to have missed the part about how the document "focuses on protection of religions themselves, particularly Islam, rather than the rights of individuals.."

See, it's "screw the religious, we're protecting religions."

So it's actually worse than you perceived. There's NO protection of religious individuals involved, here, just a generalized platform for prosecuting acts directed against "religion", Islam in particular.

BTW: "The Antichrist" and "The 12th Imam" will turn out to be the same dude. Mark my words.

"Yeah, like they're intending on protecting Christians."

No, what they will do is declare that Christianity IS a form of religious defamation.

I've been saying the same thing since 9/11/01, or maybe a little later but every time I've said it I get lambasted and laughed at.

I got your back though dude.
