Obama: Bush Not Respecting Constitution Mar 30 04:23 PM US/Eastern By BRENDAN FARRINGTON TALLAHASSEE, Fla.
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Friday accused President Bush of failing to respect the Constitution amid the uproar over the firing of eight federal prosecutors.
The Illinois senator also took a swipe at embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Obama has joined several other Democrats in calling for Gonzales to resign.
"I was a constitutional law professor, which means unlike the current president I actually respect the Constitution," Obama told an audience at a campaign fundraiser. "I believe in an attorney general who is actually the people's lawyer, not the president's lawyer."
Obama's remarks drew one of the most enthusiastic responses in a speech often interrupted by applause.
Gonzales acknowledged Friday there is confusion about his role in firing the eight U.S. attorneys last fall. His former chief of staff, Kyle Sampson, told Congress Thursday that prosecutors put on a list to be fired got there in part because they were not deemed "loyal Bushies."
During his stop in Florida, Obama held a brief meeting with Democratic lawmakers and then spoke for about three minutes to more than 100 college students who held an impromptu rally outside an IMAX theater where he held his fundraiser.
"I just hope that everyone here has that same sense of urgency that I do," Obama told the students. "I hope the young people in particular use this campaign as a vehicle to get involved and engaged. This is one of those rare moments where we could change history, and those moments don't come that often. So I hope that all of you take advantage of it."
Inside the fundraiser, which was a sellout at 640 tickets and raised about $150,000, people packed a room and balcony.

Democrats think being a Republican is a violation of the Constitution. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
Wait till FLYWEIGHT has to actually debate something more substantial than a rock.
Does that mean Obama would repeal all gun control laws, eliminate the IRS, do away with the NEA, Medicare, and all the pork giveaways?
"I was a constitutional law professor, which means ... I believe in an attorney general who is actually the people's lawyer, not the president's lawyer."
Oh really? Guess you skipped skool when they got the part about JFK and his brother RFK. And were you high on crack for eight years when Willard's wife had her lesbo 'b*tch' Janet Rino as AG, huh 'Barry'?
An aside Dumbo, if the AG is the 'people's lawyer', why don't we elect him? Yes 'professor', I'm waiting...
lmao
The Chocolate Senator's ears are melting......
One thing has nothing to do with the other.
In fact, today's professors tend to insult the Constitution, not respect it!
Bush will be put on trial; I've said it since November.
The rats want to get the stink of Clinton off of them by dirtying up a republican.
It's going to be disgusting to see.
You know that is right.
To play devil's advocate, the Bar Exam is little more than an exercise in rote memorization that bears little relation to the actual practice of law. It serves only to weed out those people who can't afford a BarBri review course.
Or so I've been told by lawyers. Ask me in November.
Yeah and Clintoon taught Constitutional Law and ironically one of his students, a judge, would judge him inadequate for having "lied to the court". clinton is a master of "covering his tracks" but the evidence will undo him.
It is already disgusting...and they haven't gotten to the impeachment part yet.
All I am hoping for at this point...is that it will take so much of this crapola like the US Attorney hearings and such..that Americans will be SICK of them bitching.
A CONSTITUTIONAL WHAT?????
Good grief, GIVE US A BREAK!!!
""I was a constitutional law professor, which means unlike the current president I actually respect the Constitution," Obama told an audience at a campaign fundraiser.
Action speak louder than words... so prove it, because up to this point your actions only show that you abhor it.
He didn't fail the bar exam. He taught at the University of Chicago Law School. Since he was in the top of his class at Harvard Law School, he's probably not a legal idiot.
And an appointed official is supposed to follow the policies laid down by the person who appointed him. In this case. the senior officlals at Justice completely failed to make this clear to certain USAttorneys, who seemed to think that they were independent operators subject only to the canons of the legal profession. Wrong. They are subject to lawful authority. So unless their superiors give them an unlawful order, they are bound to obey, even if they disagree with it.
Nevertheless, even the greatest constitutional law expert probably should not brag that they are one.
A loaded charge with no examples to back it up. What a putz.
Obama and Clinton....these are stars in the Dimm party.
God help us.
