Silver Star (Or, What if Dhimmicrats had made High Noon?)
Cold Fusion Video Reviews ^ | 03/28/04 | Nathan Shumate

"The premise is this: Young Gregg Leech (co-producer Earle Lyon) has just been elected sheriff of the small town of Boyce. He's more than a little hesitant about taking the star, as he's seen up-close and personal how the job interferes with prospects for a peacable life...

[Snip]

...by the next morning, things are already turning sour. First thing, three rough gunslingers ride into town, brazenly wearing their guns despite local law, and tear down the victory banner hanging in front of the hotel. Then they take up positions in the saloon run by Karen's father (Morris Ankrum), push around the locals, and make their intentions clear: Their leader, King Daniels (director/co-writer/co-producer Richard Bartlett), boldly declares his intention to kill Sheriff Leech if he isn't out of town by 8pm.

To which the new sheriff reacts by... Well, he saw the three ride in with their guns hanging out, but didn't want to cause trouble. He starts hearing of banners being torn down and local young men being beat up, and he rides past the saloon, but doesn't go in. And while the three gunmen are relaxing in the saloon all day, getting drunker and meaner, the sheriff does nothing.

[Snip]

No, that's not quite accurate. He tries to find a way out of his job, or failing that, out of town.

First he goes and recounts the ballots. Then he goes to the railroad ticket office to see if there's anything passing through that day that he could hop. Then he stops by the blacksmith (Barton MacLane), who pointedly mentions that he voted for the other guy, to enquire about a used wagon. Even with the movie being in black and white, Sheriff Leech practically glows yellow."

I'd better stop right here. The smog of apt contemporary metaphors in this description is getting so thick that I'm about to choke.

I don't understand this article, but I wanted to point out that High Noon (the Gary Cooper movie) was indeed made by Democrats, and is little more than pro-Communist propaganda.

So how is the individual (Gary Cooper) who begs people from the town to help him stop the bad guys, gets no cooperation from anyone and has to fight it alone, communistic? the individual is nothing in a commie society!

If it was a commie flick, Gary Cooper would have gotten everyone from the government to capture the gang going after him, torture them and enslave their family in a gulag!

I haven't seen The Silver Star, but a commentator over at the Internet Movie Database had this to say:
Although this nifty little western drama is seldom available for viewing, it remains as one of the better western character studies of the 50s. Perhaps the lack of action, and the stark reality of the picture account for the poor reviews it received upon it's release, however, in hindsight, it remains one of the better "High Noon" inspired quickies, and is perhaps in some respects even better than it's insparation. Lyon shows signs of real acting brilliance as the cowardly Sheriff, only willing to fight when he is shamed into it. The great title song by Wakely is unforgettable.

John Wayne may have agreed with you, but I am not as certain if it was "Pro Communist" as much as it was a self serving "Pro-Foreman" movie. But I suppose the guy was pretty bitter regarding his treatment in the McCarthy hearings.

Fact of the matter is that McCarthy was the true hero and not the self absorbed Foreman (Kane) analogy.

The screen writer stated that he wanted Frank Miller to be a stand in for Joe McCarthy, with Gary Cooper playing a leftist "courageous" enough to take on McCarthyism.

Foreman did't participate in the McCarthy hearings, which took place in the Senate beginning in 1953. He was summoned to testify before the House Committee on Un-American Activities, headed by Rep. John Wood (D-Ga.) in 1951. McCarthy's Committee on Government Operations never investigated Hollywood.

You're right. My bad.

Thanks for the clarification, but the analogy of Kane as the victim and hero still holds.

Your kidding? Where did you read this? Very interesting.
