Bill Frist doesn’t know who is going to win the 2008 Republican primary, let alone the final list of candidates. One thing Frist does know for sure is if his friend and former U.S. Senate colleague Fred Thompson decides to enter the race, he will be “very, very supportive” of a Thompson candidacy.
But with some polls showing Thompson, Tennessee’s second-most-recent former Republican senator, in third place among GOP presidential hopefuls – only weeks after he first hinted that he was considering running for president – talk of Fred Thompson dominated much of Frist’s visit.
Frist confirmed much of the speculation surrounding comments Thompson first made on Fox News Sunday – in which the Law and Order star and movie actor noted that he was thinking of throwing his hat in the campaign ring – by saying he and Thompson have talked at least every other day about a multitude of issues, including a presidential run.
It was just weeks ago, as well, that Frist formally announced that he would not be running for president in 2008.
“He recognizes that at this point in history, people want somebody who can communicate effectively, who can communicate directly, who can cut through a lot of the rhetoric,” Frist said of Thompson. “And Fred can do just that.”
“Over the next several weeks, and it could even be months, he’s going to continue to consider it very, very aggressively,” Frist added.

Mrs. T is built like a clipper ship figurehead, and can hardly be blamed for dressing the part at a black tie affair for entertainers.
She probably looks just as sexy buttoned up. Maybe more so. Thank heavens she has media consultant experience. It's almost too good to be true.

Fred represents the East Tennessee Republican Establishment of Howard Baker and Lamar Alexander, he's not the heir of Ronald Reagan by a good margin.
His first TV appearance was back at those Watergate hearings back in the 70's when he asked questions that broke the scandal wide open. The Wikipedia article puts it this way: "He was responsible for Baker's asking one of the questions that is said to have led directly to the downfall of President Richard Nixon.."
I didn't like those hearings (I watched them as a teenager) although Thomspon didn't figure in my mind as much as Democrat Chairman Sam Ervin and Howard Baker did.
Its no wonder this guy got welcomed into the world of liberal Hollywood and acting. Heck, he helped bring down Richard Nixon. ("He ain't such a bad Republican")
I remind all, I smell the GOP Establishment using Thompson to bring down Giuliani's poll numbers to prop McCain up.
They want to draw conservative voters away while the mods stay with Giuliani or McCain.
We could be in the process of being suckered into helping McCain by changing his poll position to the lead.
I think the guys will be posting that picture of Mrs. Thompson on many of the FRed Threads.

I'm 40, myself, but I haven't put quite as much effort into being Stuning as Mrs. Thompson has :-).
In a gown with less display of snoobage, I expect she would look both pretty and elegant.

Margaret is not among the most obnoxious lefties but she is no moderate either. I hope none of her liberalism rubbed off on Thompson.
The current Mrs Thompson not only is quite striking but it appears she has a good political mind. These will be good attributes for a first lady. :) Kellyanne Conway Fitzpatrick also would have been great as first lady!
I didn't care all that much for Fred when he was on the Watergate committee, and when I would see him acting, because he reminded me just a bit of the evil senator and governor, Lowell Weicker. But I see they are worlds apart politically. I can't imagine Fred shilling for Castro, as Weicker has done.
Oh, one other thing Chris Matthews said was that once when he interviewed Thompson, he thought it was remarkable that Thompson showed up alone, with no entourage, no PR people, etc. Matthews also said when he asked Fred if he minded writing about his divorce, the former senator just said matter of factly, "I would prefer that you didn't." I hope there is no scandal there, but Chris just seemed to think this manner of understatement Fred has is very appealing. If Fred is becoming a new "maverick," I hope it is not in the mold of a certain senior senator from AZ.
Fred run! Frist stay out of the way. We don't need you reminding voters of the disaster you were and confuse you with Fred. So please do the country a favor and butt out.
If Thompson is smart he will wait to july,at least, to annouce, let rudy mc caine and romney waste all their money on consultants
I don't listen to the show, but nationalreview.com has been carrying the transcripts, and the commentaries are awesome. They remind me of the radio commentaries Reagan was doing in the late Seventies.
