Testimony by Giuliani Indicates He Was Briefed on Kerik in ’00 (NY Times Hit)
NYTimes via Drudge Report ^ | March 30, 2007 | William K. Rashbaum

Posted on 03/29/2007 8:52:01 PM PDT by RDTF

Rudolph W. Giuliani told a grand jury that his former chief investigator remembered having briefed him on some aspects of Bernard B. Kerik’s relationship with a company suspected of ties to organized crime before Mr. Kerik’s appointment as New York City police commissioner, according to court records.

Mr. Giuliani, testifying last year under oath before a Bronx grand jury investigating Mr. Kerik, said he had no memory of the briefing, but he did not dispute that it had taken place, according to a transcript of his testimony.

Mr. Giuliani’s testimony amounts to a significantly new version of what information was probably before him in the summer of 2000 as he was debating Mr. Kerik’s appointment as the city’s top law enforcement officer. Mr. Giuliani had previously said that he had never been told of Mr. Kerik’s entanglement with the company before promoting him to the police job or later supporting his failed bid to be the nation’s homeland security secretary.

In his testimony, given in April 2006, Mr. Giuliani indicated that he must have simply forgotten that he had been briefed on one or more occasions as part of the background investigation of Mr. Kerik before his appointment to the police post.

-snip-

There is no evidence that Mr. Giuliani knew about the apartment renovation before promoting Mr. Kerik to police commissioner. But the top investigator who briefed Mr. Giuliani in 2000, the transcript shows, was aware that Mr. Kerik’s brother and a close friend had been hired by an affiliate of the company, which for years had been struggling to secure a city license.

-snip-

The transcript of Mr. Giuliani’s testimony was not given to The New York Times by any rival campaign.

him with lies, deceptions, and disinformation

Which lies, deception, and disinformation did you find in this article? It would be helpful to point them out rather than just complain about his opponents attacking him.

I've read the thread, and even FO didn't provide any specific items he thought were lies in the article.

We should be more rational and civilized that that.

There is virtually no difference at all between the wacky right and the loony left. This is common knowledge, but of course the participants are the only ones who cannot see it and deny that the relationship exists.

It is similar to a insane person boasting his complete sanity and that everyone else is crazy, but not him.

Wayne Barrett, a liar yes.

a.) has that been proven?

and

b.) has Rudy collected damages on those lies?

Jack Newfield... incredibly slanted yes, liar might be too tough. Newfield had some integrity.

In that case, you should Google up 'The Full Rudy' by Jack Newfield and read his article. It is sourced, has quotes from real people not 'anonymous sources', and rips the veneer off the wood so far as Rudy's carefully cultivated image is concerned.

And last time I asked you a yes or no, you deferred, if you remember. :)

Really? Refresh my memory, and I'll see what I can do for you. ;)

That legal cover could well trample my liberty and freedom.

It very well could. And it often does.

It is why we have a Constitution and the Courts to define the limits of that "lawful" authority.

But the point remains, that an intelligent and learned person, engaging in a political science discussion on Government would very legitimately argue Giuliani's point.

Because in the absence of lawful authority what remains is barbarism not freedom. See Iraq. See Gaza.

Giuliani is right.

And obviosuly not the candidate for those who like politicans simple.

"I'm for Freedom" Rah-Rah! Sis-Boom-Ba

That is exactly what it is. No hit pieces on any Dems except Biden and he's a loser. No, the Times needs a huge investigation about itself, its greed, its Leftist bias and Quisling like editorial page, and its corruption of its own owners by some enterprising media outlet. I am very thankful to the Lord that the Times is losing readership!! LOL

"Do you really think Fred isn't getting serious scrutiny?"

Yes, nothing compared to the bashing declared candidates are getting. People attack front-runners, not potential candidates sitting on the fence.

"If you'd like, I'll ping you to the threads I see that try to hack him up."

No thanks. Unlike most of the anti-Rudy people, I rather be on a "pro" candidate thread rather than an "anti" candidate thread.

I didn't say this article contained lies, although the tone of the article is anti-Rudy. What I was referring to generally is how the anti-Rudy crowd ("ARC")attempts to turn a non-event into a smoking gun. For example, yesterday, the ARC posted an article about how Mayor Giuliani opposed the repeal of the NYC commuter tax. There was nothing false about the article because because Rudy did, in fact, oppose the repeal of the tax. But to the ARC, this was the smoking-gun; this was absolute, iron-clad proof that Rudy is a tax-raiser amd not a tax-cutter as he has been portrayed. How freak'in stupid can the ARC get. They are idiots and obviously know nothing about local politics. Rudy was elected by the people of NYC, not the suburban residents who pay the commuter tax. Elimination of the commuter tax would shift a portion of the NYC tax burden from surban residents, who Giuliani does not represent, to the NYC residents, who Giuliani does represent. All politics is local and I cannot imagine a politican from either party who would take a position on an issue like this that is adverse to the people who elected that person to office.

"Oh, so you are a catcher, not a pitcher, on Rudy's team. OK. have it your way."

No, more like a designated hitter actually.

And how about you. Must be tough for a pitcher for a team deciding whether to enter the majors.

I've been saying for months that the Kerik story was likely to be the one that ultimately sinks Giuliani.

I don't even know any details, but when you look closely at various aspects of Kerik's connection to Giuliani you realize that they effectively destroy much of Giuliani's credibility on what should be his strongest points.

Freedom is protected by lawful authority. Only an authoritarian would equate the two. In a purely free society, lawful authority would not interact in any way with people except when they trample the liberty and freedom of others.

True freedom is doing what you desire without impeding's others freedom to do the same.

lawful authority is not a part of freedom, it is a necessary evil to counter those individuals who do not honor freedom with their respect and self-control.

The statement, as made, is little more than the mantra "Freedom is Submission". Spoken that way it's contradiction is more clear.

"But that type of nanny-state law is what Rudy Giuliani supports, and he thinks that my freedom should be based on whatever rules he thinks are appropriate for me, like not being allowed to own a handgun, or a ferret.

Freedom is the right to make the wrong choices."

Excellent.

purely free society

Maybe when we're living in Shangri-La we can indulge in fantasy.

Where we live, and given human nature, and the reason that a government, any government, exists, is because authority must exist together with freedom.

Can there be property rights without lawful authority?

Where we have freedom, as in the US, it is where the governed, consent and acting democratically have power over that delegated lawful authority. But the authority must exist and must be followed.

I repeat my example of the contrary situation- Gaza.

In sum, concerning the issue on the table, Giuliani, his view -rationally- is correct.

Rudeo has Hellery Clinton Total Selective Memory Lapse disease. Er...uh...I...I, I don't recall......

Rudy forgot Kerik was a crook?

Yeah, sure.

One "forgets" to cap the toothpaste------one "forgets" to mow the lawn---one "forgets" to take out the garbage.

"Forgetting" your longtime former driver, bodyguard, Police Commissioner and "security business partner" is a criminal means Rudeo is senile, afflicted with incipient Alzheimer's disease, AND/OR he is a compulsive liar.

This is just the beginning of Rudyboys troubles

All that has been posted over the last weeks are things that we know.

What is alarming is what there is on him that we will find out the hard way.

It would be wise for people to cut the losses now, and get serious. It is going to get very tiring for his believers to have to keep plugging their ears and making excuses for him.

It is also disgusting that it is way before the primaries and we are supposed to sit back and accept that the big lib Rudeo is the man without argument.
