Doc: The White House Immigration PowerPoint
U.S. News ^ | 3/28/07 | unknown

White House officials have been visiting quietly on Capitol Hill in recent weeks to try to hammer out a compromise on immigration reform that can earn the support of the majority of Republican senators. The White House stepped into the debate earlier this month when negotiations between Sens. John McCain and Edward Kennedy, longtime immigration leaders, collapsed; the two senators were trying to draft a new immigration-reform bill that would be used to kick off debate on the issue this year.

...The White House yesterday floated a PowerPoint presentation, obtained by U.S. News, that shows the outlines of the plan they've hashed out with Republican senators. The L.A. Times offered some new details about the negotiation process--and its frequency--in a story out this morning. They also added that President Bush views passing immigration reform as key to his legacy.

(Excerpt) Read more at usnews.com ...

TOPICS: Crime/Corruption
KEYWORDS: aliens; amnesty; builditnow; fence; immigrantlist; wall
The presentation is in this PDF file.

Shouldn't they be trying to win the support of voters?

"They also added that President Bush views passing immigration reform as key to his legacy."

Yes, and quite a legacy he will have. He will be remembered for rewarding 20 or 30 million illegal aliens for breaking the law, for eliciting laughter every time he mentions that we are a nation who values the "rule of law", and for being a prime mover in the abandonment of the Big Tent GOP by the conservative base.

Quite a legacy...

"Z-Visa" = amnesty.

Only a fool would not see it for what it is and only a fool would beleive Bush wants anything but.

It doesn't matter what the GOP or democrats vote for initially, the democrats have complete control of the conference committee and can remove anything they don't like at that point. "Bi-partisanship" under those conditions is a facade and I'm sure all the good lawyers in favor of comprehensive immigration reform in the Senate know it and are counting on the rest of us not to.

President Bush views passing immigration reform as key to his legacy.

Maybe he can get the Congress to pass it quickly so he can sign it before that same Congress he can work with impeaches him.

Powerpoint?

Let me guess,

More "I'l trade you security and enforcing the law if you give me amnesty plus another 10 Million to do the jobs Americans won't do at minimum wage."

Hopefully the Heritage Foundation has been leaked the real paperwork of the proposal.

If it passes, conservatives should just file a federal lawsuit against it. It's blatantly unconstitutional.

Everybody needs to go scroll through the 23 page PDF file. It's a Powerpoint pres so it goes pretty fast. Lots of interesting stuff. And a lack of much needed detail. (But I can give them a break since this is just a Ppt pres :)

IMHO, all our screaming and yelling about this is having some effect. But just a little. We need to scream louder and longer.

I agree; Z-visa = amnesty.

TWP triggers GREEN CARD REBALANCING!

REBALANCING!

How Clintonesque. (see contributions in clinton years for taxes)

Z= amnesty Y=amnesty

23 pages of marketing hogwash.

PAGE 13: Z visa holders are eligible for secondary education. IOW ILLEGALS get to use anchor babies again.

Page 17 family chain migration (IOW each family brings 30 relatives on a fast track)

Page 21 provides for citizenship after all this BS is "cleared". IOW amnesty for illegal aliens.

Page 23 Y visa temp workers GET CITIZENSHIP IF THEY APPLY.

The ENTIRE 23 pages = AMNESTY. PERIOD.

As a lawyer I already see how to game the system on this model to have clients obtain citizenship. This is absurd.

Lou Dobbs Tonight/Broken Borders aired 3/22/07

These are the LEGAL foreign workers, etc. we allow in now.

There's a lot of distortion here. I think it's important to get these facts out.

Two million people legally admitted to the United States each year. In addition - 14 percent of those, by the way, those people given permanent residency are from Mexico. Two million people legally admitted to the United States. Four hundred thousand skilled foreign workers and their families receive H-1 visas each year.

Nearly 900,000 other legal foreign workers are admitted on some type of employment visa.

Six-hundred sixty thousand student visas are issued every year.

And 455,000 people given temporary employment transfers.

Help me out. What are we trying to do here? I mean, we have a lawful immigration system that brings in 2 million people a year, plus all of these other workers that overwhelms any other immigration system in the world. All of Russia, all of the European Union combined can't even come close to matching our immigration levels. And that's a population 40 percent higher than our own. Help me out.

Immigration rates are measured on a per 1000 of population basis.

According to the CIA Factbook,

Canada has a rate of 5.85 per 1000.
US has 3.18 per 1000.
Sweden has 3.12 per 1000.
United Kingdom has 2.18 per 1000.
