It's hard to believe, but that's what we're hearing from Capitol Hill. A resolution has been proposed in the House of Representatives that condemns Iran for the seizure of British sailors and marines, expresses support for our British allies. It's hard to see anything controversial in that. But apparently, the resolution has languished all week while Pelosi refuses to allow it to come to the floor.
Earlier today, Congressman Eric Cantor wrote the following letter to Pelosi:
Dear Madam Speaker: Fifteen kidnapped British marines and sailors recently became the latest victims of a systematic Iranian campaign of terror and international defiance. The illegal seizure of the British forces is a signal that Iran views us as powerless to prevent it from realizing its aggressive ambitions.
For the sake of our standing in the world, our allies and most importantly the 15 British personnel and their families, I urge you to bring H. Res. 267 to the floor today before we adjourn. The resolution calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the British marines and sailors. It would also call on the U.N. Security Council to not only condemn the seizure, but to explore harsher sanctions to counter the growing Iranian threat.
A Republican Congressional staffer writes:
It is simply staggering to me that Pelosi refuses to stand beside America's closest ally. I literally would not have thought this possible, until I saw it this week.
Staggering, indeed. We'll see what happens this afternoon.
Weren't the british about to pull out of iraq? hmmm.... decisions agains America have consequences too... I may be inclined to let the british handle iran and see what france does....
So what happens now? Well, President Bush has made crystal clear that he will veto the bill. But he won't even get a chance for several weeks. The Democratic leadership have decided to stick to the normal (read: non-emergency) calendar, and so Congress is now heading home for Spring Break. Once they return, the Senate bill still needs to be reconciled with the House version, and so the final bill won't make it to President Bush's desk until at least mid-April.
Meanwhile, our troops are waiting. So it turns out that according to the Democratic leadership, funding for the Tree Assistance Program, sugar beets , and the Ewe Lamb Replacement and Retention Program are all "emergencies". But there's nothing urgent at all about actually getting funds to our soldiers on the battlefield.
Grrrr!!
She's working hard to get Code Pink off her lawn and keep them from having a sit-in in her office.
The stay-home-100%'ers can kiss my Marine olive drab a$$!
But hey ... don't dare question their patriotism
I most certainly do question their patriotism, as I know you do too.
Personally I think many of the top RATS are on the Saudi's payroll. In addition to Soros.
In all honesty I don't understand why anyone is really surprised by this
Did people really believe that speech Nancy gave when becoming Speaker of the House??
The Saudi's and Soros money won't stop the terrorists
I'm not surprised - as much as the left hates George Bush, they hate Tony Blair almost as much. And their juvenile hatred, and acting on it, is as far as their vision extends, is the only thing that matters to them. And the British media is just as bad. It's their own citizens and service people being held hostage by the Iranians, and all they can do is write trash attacking the Jews.
I expect Pelosi will soon go on TV, wag her finger and sneer at Blair to "calm down" and "take a deep breath." And of course the media will swoon when she does.
I have no doubt she will
But eventually she and the other nitwits will have no other choice but to face reality
And the really sad part is ... we get to say .. I told you so and I really don't look forward to that moment
I don't either, because the cost of that moment is going to be higher than anyone can imagine.
yes it will
For reference! ;-)
The Speaker of the House of Representatives is a nothing job, perks aside. While there have been strong Speakers in the past wielding great power, Pelosi is not one.
Pelosi's main job is to assign parking spaces around the Capitol building, supervise the Sargent at Arms, and try to keep the few House members who show up for work each day sober till noon.
In a national where half the population doesn't know the name of the President, she's unimportant.
There is. But keep perpetuating it. I guess you never want another tax cut, don't mind partial birth abortion, and would prefer to ignore and appease terrorism than fight for this country, because you insist on campaining against the wrong party.
Only the blind can't see the difference. And yes, the situation we're in now is as much because of people who think like you do as anyone else. Gee, thanks.
