You are talking nonsense. Bail us out? Maybe you have forgotten world war two, but it was US that stood up to the nazis, not "the US".
As for BRITAIN not having the marbles, did we have marbles when we stood by you on Iraq? Or Afghanistan?
Yes, some of us here need to learn how to 'read' UK official statements.
I meet with UK soldiers on a regular basis. No panty-waists, at all. I would *hope* that we Americans could show the resolve that Britian did during WWII under a similar level of threat.
On the post side of WWII, you do not get a feel for what the UK went through. I know very well. My family was still there.
Brits usually understate, Brit diplomats severely understate, but you better have your OED handy, as they will hand your ass to you with a velvet glove.
The USA did stand up to the Nazis, it just took us a while to get into the fight. :)
The early days of WWII were indeed Britain's finest. Seldom have so many owed so much to so few, and all that.
The many includes the USA, or should. Had Britain rolled over or been conquered in 1940, as the other European countries were, the American attack on Germany would have been infinitely more difficult, arguably impossible, at least before the A-bomb came along.
The leadership of the entire Anglosphere has been taking estrogen.
After all, I remember an Iran Hostage situation that lasted over four hundred days, with nothing being done at all, until a certain treasonous (deleted) left the White House, only to later continue to be a public nuisance.
Not to get into a pissing contest mate, but DDay would not have happened without the U.S. WWII would have been lost without the U.S. and U.K. However, you are severly misguided on who stood up to who. To exclude the U.S. is nonsense. Typical arrogance.
As for BRITAIN not having the marbles, did we have marbles when we stood by you on Iraq? Or Afghanistan?
We love you, Cousins, but the fact is without the US you would lost WWII, and quite possibly WWI as well.
There is no question Britain stood for its commitments in 1914 and 1939, but it's actual hard military power wasn't up to the drill then.
Now, the problem seems to be you've virtually NO significant military power left. Your SAS, and probably the few remaining regiments of the Army and squadrons of the RAF - I withhold judgment on the RN - are outstandingly good, but there are simply not enough of them to matter, even against a third class power like Iran. Your ability to actually project power comes almost entirely at the courtesy of the United States navy and air force. Which is really sad.
If 100% - or even a substantial majority - of the British saw us as allies and were with us, I'd say "OK, no problem, send along what you've got and we're damned glad to have you" but increasingly it looks like most Brits see us as more the enemy than the Iranians. Blair is with us, but barely, and has held us back from doing things as timely and as aggressively as we thought right.
Now, British sailors and marines docilely perform on Iranian video while HM Government dithers and sputters. A real power would have handed the Iranian ambassador his passports if the people and their equipment weren't returned within 24 hours. And you'd be in the 3rd day of mobilization by now, which traditionally, is when officers swords are sent to the armorer for sharpening (see AJP Taylor English History 1914-1945)
Tessie O'Shea. That is who she remined me of.
Back to the real topic.
I for one consider the British to be our allies and friends. All the Best.
I apologize for my fellow American's sleight it was done without discernment. I have served alongside British units and individuals and I am proud to have done so. You are our ally and friend. I pray for the leaders of Britain as well as all our Allies and our own leaders that they grow increasingly strong and resolute to defend the West.
I pray for those who have suffered the Bombings of your Subways. I pray for the families and children of Beslyn murdered by our common enemy that Russia may reunite with the West in this fight.
I pray for the People and for every Soldier, Sailor, Airmen and Marine of the West that they be strong in their faith and resolute in defense of liberty.
