...Suppose there was a hardcore Republican senator who opposed a war policy of a Democrat president. I know, you have to imagine a Democrat going to war, but let's say it's possible. And let's just say this Republican senator had a son in the military and upon meeting the president picked a fight with him and was later quoted as saying he was thinking about punching the Democrat president over the war policy and perceived rudeness. That's exactly the situation that describes Sen. Webb, except the political affiliations are reversed.
Now let's just imagine that particular Republican senator had an aide who was caught carrying the senator's loaded pistol around, revealing the fact that the senator routinely packs a gun. Couldn't I expect a great hue and cry about this senator who is so paranoid and demented he thinks he needs to carry an automatic pistol and two extra clips because he's going to need to fight his way out of, what, the Senate cloakroom?
The reason I devise this comparison is that I think Webb is right to carry a gun, and he also has a right to do so. But I think there would be far more made of this issue if the political affiliation were reversed.

Pelousy and Feloniuous Reid would have re-dubbed the Republicans as the Official Party of Corruption and Gun Smuggling

I have very little doubt Webb would kill Bush given the chance. He's crazy.
I think Jim Webb is a sanctimonious, arrogant, smug, know-it-all slimeball, nothing more. He'll be a one-term senator remembered by few for accomplishing nill.
Is it just me or does the black guy look like he was photoshopped into the picture?
Or he could just whine that he needs special protection being such a special and important person himself. (Not like the rest of you of the huddled mass, the wretched refuse.) - ...But then he would be a democrat!
what is really scary is the thought that cynthia mc kinney walks around armed, and that is why she didn't do the simple thing without her badge, which would have been to simply walk thru the metal detector.
The seriousness of the charge alone, would be enough to immediately drive the Republican from office.
I wonder. He doesn't look as ticked off as the others.

He would be under the jailhouse - held incognito somewhere that would never be revealed. Heck with habeas corpus, bail etc.
Besides that way he can't vote for "bad" things.
I actually support Webb on this. Our officials should be able to be armed. If they can't be trusted with a gun then they can't be trusted to represent us. This is correct though. We would never hear the end of it if a Republican was caught packing heat but we know that is different.
I support his right to be armed, same as mine. If he had taken responsibility for the mix-up I would have thought nothing of it. The way he handled it though shows a character so poor he doesn't deserve the office.
Besides, the facts defeat the argument. Webb was in New Orleans at the time. Also, his totally clueless Marine aide put the gun through the x-ray machine. (Good smuggling technique, not!)
I can't figure out, however, why Webb acted like such an weasel when he was asked about it.
You aren't from Northern Virginia, are you? Things are leaning left for this commonwealth.
They are missing a muslim. Help please.
