As my frustration with the state of Massachusetts grows, I found out a few days ago that my 14 year old daughter has the chicken pox. Shortly thereafter, I was enlightened to the fact that there were a number of cases of the virus being endured by kids of all ages in my daughter's school system. A small epidemic. Now before evoking judgment for posting such a boring thread, here's the punch line. Most of the cases are repeats. That's right, many of the kids have already had the chicken pox, including my daughter.
Now that I've got your attention, let me go a little further with this. Back in November, a healthy, beautiful, vibrant, intelligent and active young lady of 14, was stricken by an unknown aliment. She went into a coma, and on February 2, passed away after a multitude of complications caused by the virus destroying her internal organs. Doctors have no clue as to what it was, and probably never will.
We live in a country with medical care that's second to none. In the past, if you had the chicken pox, you didn't get them again, period. We used to have chicken pox parties so we could it over with, remember? And how can a healthy, strong, young girl, be so aggressively, and incurably attacked, and succomb while in the care of one of the most respected hospitals in the world (Children of Boston).
At the risk of being a politically incorrect conspiracy theorist thug. At the risk of having my tongue torn out and eyes gouged out by the Duval, Kennedy, Kerry, cronie liberals of this state, I'm going to offer one explanation that may explain both instances.
Over the last five years or so, my town has been invaded by illegals from Brazil, Guatemala, and Equador. You can't drive down main street without counting 50 of them. They gather by the hundreds on Sundays in our town parks to the point where the parks are unusable by the people who pay the taxes to maintain them. They come here from rain forests and mountains without medical screening, carrying who knows what. They throw their kids into our school system where they hack and wease whatever they're carrying for all to breathe in. When is it going to stop? Why are my tax dollars paying for the education of people who are making my kids sick? Is it so unreasonable for me to theorize that they may be carrying strains of sicknesses that we haven't seen before? Am I so cynical to believe that this may have crossed minds of the experts, but at the risk of being politically incorrect, has not been introduced as a viable possibility?
I hope this thread finds the eyes of someone who may be in a position to underscore, in a public forum, this subject as a potentially catastrophic effect of illegal immigration. My states government doesn't care about the cost of supporting illegals. They don't care about the increased crime rate at the hands of illegals. They don't care if we're hit and killed by unlicensed driver illegals. They don't care that illegals are taking jobs that used to pay decent money for peanuts. They don't care that most of that money is going back "home". They just plain are putting the welfare of these ILLEGAL immigrants before the welfare of the people who are paying their salary.
Maybe they'll bat an eye if someone can convince them that they might be silently killing our kids.

Not so much strength as strains. There are eleven or so versions of the virus that typically cause CPX. The standard immunization was for the 7 known in the West at the time. New shots hit all 11.
I would suggest moving to a state where there is at least a CHANCE of electing conservative representation. Of course illegals are everywhere... but we have to elect people who share our disgust. WE CAN'T DO THAT HERE. You know it... I know it... but many don't know how delusional this state actually is.
I just came back from a job interview in SC and it looks pretty good compared to what we have up here.
Boy, I would love for my children to have chickenpox, I cant find a darned case to expose them to.

When I saw that you were a nurse, I figured, but there actually have been under-dosed vaccines before (last year's flu vaccines, which had to be "cut" to make more available and the several batches of the early polio vaccines being prime examples).
The vaccine is preferable, in that they would be much less likely to have shingles and/or certain related cold sores (not all) later in life.
Shingles is bad. Chicken pox of the nerves. It doesn't itch. You know that cold and clammy, alarmed feeling you get with the pain of the dentist inserting that needle into the soft tissues between the gum line and the cheek?
Just like that.
For two weeks.
And there's no anesthesia that kicks in.
It sounds dreadful. You have my sympathy and my hope that it doesn't happen again.

Just wait till she comes down with the SHINGLES. That is a variant of the chicken pox virus which never leaves the body. No fun!
I hope you get the job. We are visiting there next month (to visit our daughter in college there) and also look at real estate, or at least some lots. I love SC, and the people are so friendly! The problem is my husband can't just ditch his law practice right now, but I envy those who can get out.

You sure it's not shingles? a late term form of chicken pox.
My little one who was not vaccinated (he's allergic to eggs) got the pox 2 weeks ago. Now my 10-year-old has a horrible case of it with high fevers and hallucinations, even though he was vaccinated. I think the vaccine is worthless.
I had shingles a couple of years ago, but I recognized the symptoms and got to the doctor within a couple of days and got some antiviral meds. I was over it in a week and avoided most of the blisters and no permanent nerve damage. I had the shakes in my right arm for a while after that, but no pain.
Hopefully, since you've already had it twice, next time, if there is one, you can get on the antivirals soon enough (i.e. within three days of the first symptoms). They work, so don't be a hero and try to live with it.

I read about 2 guys working at NIH on putting the herpes virus into permanent remission. NOT curing it but permanent remission. In the PARADE Sunday magazine.
Since my Dad had trigeminal nerve herpes which can take away a person's eyesight, I called to talk to the Docs, a tactic I had learned from a guy at work, who was calling various experts around the Country (engineering company) looking for various Teflon applications.
Anyway, I discovered that the guys had left but I was given a number to contact them at. Talked with one of them who explained taking 1000 mg of L-Lysine every day will keep the herpes in remission.
It worked for my Dad, it has worked for me. It has worked for every person I've told about this. But since no pharmaceutical company could benefit from their research, they were basically tossed out of the NIH for daring to find a common OTC "cure" for herpes.
It works. It's cheap. It's available without a prescription which is why you'll never hear about it from your medical practitioner.

To my knowledge, I have never had chickenpox and I am 66. My brother had it bad and we shared a room, I didn't get it. My daughter had it bad and I didn't get it. I have been waiting to get shingles which would prove that I had a very light case but so far nothing, now I read that people are getting it multiple times. Strange.

I had chicken pox twice way over 50 years ago.
Oh man, it's coming tick tick tick.
Just kidding.
I had it twice and once as an adult. It was not pleasant.
