White House withdraws ambassador nominee
Associated Press ^ | 28 March 2007 | SAM HANANEL

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Wednesday withdrew the ambassadorial nomination of businessman Sam Fox after Democrats denounced Fox for giving money to a controversial conservative group that undermined Sen. John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign.

Kerry, D-Mass., had criticized Fox because of a $50,000 contribution that Fox made in 2004 to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

Many Democrats blame the group for sinking Kerry's presidential hopes that year after it aired a series of controversial ads that impugned Kerry's military record in the Vietnam War.

"Sam Fox had every opportunity to disavow the politics of personal destruction and to embrace the truth," Kerry said Wednesday. "He chose not to. The White House made the right decision to withdraw the nomination. I hope this signals a new day in political discourse."

Just another retreat by the President into a dusty sunset. He has puzzled his supporters by his refusal to shut off the wetback invasion, has refused to pardon the border patrol agents and now this cowardly act. UNBELIEVABLE

All the constant Bush-bashing here basically accomplishes the Democrats work for them. It's disgusting and I'm personally sick of it.

And Rudy would be more of the same - or worse.

I'm tired of "compassionate".

I'm ready for "conservative"!

Bush has me baffled.

Yeh. A few of times in his Presidency, he had momentous political capital, and he basically squandered away.

After the 06 election, it seems he has one major goal -- comprehensive immigration. If he can get that through Congress, he will slink out a happy man. After all, that seem to be about all he has left.

He couldn't even get his own GOP to help him get Social Security reform on the table after the 04 election.

I don't see this as a sign of weakness on the part of the President.

Yes, but why not go to a vote & just lose on that basis? You see by withdrawing the nomination, the Democrats will insinuate that the Swifboat Vets were not legitimate & that donating to them was a disqualifier from appointive office. If the nominee lost on a vote then the Republicans could at least say that they reject that charactarization.

I'm sure that the Democrats would find a way to keep the nomination in limbo if Bush had not withdrawn the nomination, however.

You are right. I'm disgusting and personally sick of it too. Many of us conservatives thought we had a president that would go into battles like this long and hard. And now we are disappointed again.

As for Bush-bashing,..you are right. Bush hasn't done anything wrong. All these reports of his decisions are made up and part of the vast left-wing conspiracy.
Bottom line is, don't give us anything to 'bash'. Stick with your conservative friends and principles, and we will be standing with him at the end of the day. I mean who is he trying to please? Do you have insight? Many of us are utterly dumbfounded.

After reading this, I sadly expect the President to eventually sign the latest Pork and Iraq Defeat Bill just passed in essentially the same form.

After all, to veto it would offend a lot of traitorous Democrats and their rabid supporters. Bush simply seems unable to do that.

I guess I could have posted an article on the upcoming easter egg hunt at the WH. And maybe that might not have affected your personal constitution.

Yeah, I'm sure during the election, Bush and Rove laughing and hi-fiving each other in the oval office each time the Swiftboat ads ran and was having an effect on Kerry's campaign.
But NOW????? Oh NO.

If his nominee is a qualified candidate who did nothing wrong, he should make those who oppose the candidate to go on record with their reasons and have a full hearing on the matter.

Belgium!!! Oh yeah, Bush would have wasted a LOT of political capital on THAT fight. Who would have know that Kerry had a kinuption(?) fit for that post. The world would have come to an end.

Bottom line (I have a lot of bottom lines): Most ambassador posts have been given to those that give money to elect a president. Ask Joe Kennedy Sr., to the court of St. James. He was a real prize.

Next thing you know is the president will be asking pelosi if he can go out to play:
Pelosi: "Do I get my jet?"
Bush: "Yes Nancy, yes."
Pelosi: "Okay, bring Sam Fox back in and tell him we were kidding....Big Jet, right? All the way to SanFran?"
Bush: "Yes Nancy, yes."(looking at watch)

Well, Mr. Bush, why don't you just call the Swift Boat Veterans a bunch of lying S.O.B.'s.

O.K. Let me see how this demonstrates leadership:

1) You nominate a qualifies individual that supported the "truth" by blowing Kerry's lies.
2)In your words "The Dems fear the truth, which was brought out by the Swift Boat Vets."
3) They start whinning and say they won't comfirm.
4) Believing in our nominee and having the truth behind us...

5) We withdraw the nomination... GREAT!!! THAT'S LEADERSHIP ALLRIGHT !

I gave to the SBV's and would be glad to be nominated.

Here we go again. Another Bush bashing FR post. More whining and gnashing of teeth over an ambassadorial position that doesn't add up to jack. AND all this reaction from an article by the Associated (with terrorists) Press. Good God.

I see the wisdom in the President withdrawing the nomination.

John Kerry and the Dems were about to seize this as an opportunity to again grab the spotlight for Kerry.

Right now the last memory the public has of him is his disgraceful comment against the Nat'l Guard.

Let's keep Kerry where he is and deny him the national "heroic" spotlight forever. If this means withdrawing the nomination so be it.
