White House withdraws ambassador nominee
Associated Press ^ | 28 March 2007 | SAM HANANEL

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Wednesday withdrew the ambassadorial nomination of businessman Sam Fox after Democrats denounced Fox for giving money to a controversial conservative group that undermined Sen. John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign.

Kerry, D-Mass., had criticized Fox because of a $50,000 contribution that Fox made in 2004 to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

Many Democrats blame the group for sinking Kerry's presidential hopes that year after it aired a series of controversial ads that impugned Kerry's military record in the Vietnam War.

"Sam Fox had every opportunity to disavow the politics of personal destruction and to embrace the truth," Kerry said Wednesday. "He chose not to. The White House made the right decision to withdraw the nomination. I hope this signals a new day in political discourse."

Question to all those suffering from BDS convulsions (there are a number of you on this thread): which party controls the Senate? If you don't see where I'm going with this, I question your qualifications to opine on this issue.

Sadly fulfilling W.B. Yeats' prophecy:

The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity.

Although, at this point, I hesitate to place Bush among the best.

Why would that be? This is probably just because Bush couldn't get this man confirmed by the senate.

Reap what you sow. We are stuck with dem control for the next 2 years so we all need to get used to not getting our way in 95% of what we believe in.

Its always been a dog and pony show.

You just have to have a junkyard dog that will fight, and a pony that can run.

All I see is a old bloodhound sleeping on a porch, and a glue-factory candidate.

He's a leader. He probably didn't have the votes to get this man confirmed. The Dems are undoubtedly highly emotional and irrational about anything connected in any way to the Swift Boat Vets. The Dems fear the truth, which was brought out by the Swift Boat Vets. Kerry took a tremendous beating from the SBV's and he'll never recover from it.

It is going to take two horrible terms with Hillary as President for the Republican party to recover from the disaster that Bush has become.

Yep, time to go out and roll in spring meadow grass. Get an early start reviewing the blueprints of the presidential library, and ask Kerry for a list of names for future ambassadorships for super world powers like Belgium. Heck, Bush could start taking up tennis, or maybe some language classes or something for the next 1.5 years.

and people tell me there's a difference between the Republican and Democrat party

Both parties circle the wagons whenever one of their own gets in trouble. This is the difference:

When a Dem gets in trouble, his fellows circle the wagon -- around him.

When a Pubbie gets in trouble, his fellows circle the wagons -- with him on the outside.

>If I was him, I'd go down swinging

Have you ever met
any Republican who
wouldn't support Bush

(and Republicans)
if they would take a hard line
and went down swinging?

Bush has me baffled.
There isn't one right-wing bloc
asking him to wuss.

Every right-wing bloc
wants him to man-up and fight.
But it's wuss, wuss, wuss . . .

I don't understand.
What power bloc supports him
in these kinds of moves?!

Is there a point in there somewhere, or did you truly forget which party controls the Senate?

Any time you want to apply to replace a "perfesser" of what passes for American history at most universities, I'd be happy to write a letter of recommendation.

Unless you have somehow become a closet Liberal since the Convoy.

;-)

Selective memory check.

When the GOP controlled both, we got CFR, we got Medicare Prescription, we almost got Amnesty for Illegals, etc.

When the GOP controlled both, their performance wasn't that stellar.

At least now we may have gridlock.

Bush probably withdrew the nomination in return for Kerry's support of the troop buildup financing. BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

"Is there a point in there somewhere"

Ha ha. I was actually going to ask you the same thing about your implied suggestion of rolling over and groveling to avoid confrontation.
