Dubai - A British man has been sentenced to three months in prison by a court in the conservative United Arab Emirates for insulting Islam, local media reported on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old accountant drank six beers and six vodkas in the emirate of Dubai before climbing into a taxi and subjecting the Muslim Pakistani driver to a tirade of anti-Muslim insults, the 7Days newspaper reported.
"I can't remember what I did and I can't remember all the conversation with the driver," the man told the court, denying the charges over the December 2006 incident.
Foreigners in the booming emirate - one of seven making up the UAE - account for more than 80% of its estimated 1.2 million population.
Now if he had murdered a Christian they would have given him the keys to the city.
He should have spoken bad about Christians and Jews then the ride would have been free.
IS this sick or what? I am steadily getting sick and tired of this religion.

Dubai was just written up in the Wall STJournal as an example of Jews, Christians and Muslims living and working together well becuase of their economic progress, etc.
I have a feeling there is more to this story...the guy was in a blackout.
I am not defending the radical muslims here, just pointing out that Dubai is an exception in the ME we might want to take a closer look at. Other Muslim countries also would want to NOT have peaceful co existance examples.
I don't know really...It's sort of admirable in a sick sort of way. If we had the same laws we could prosecute and expell those who praise MOHO (as a satanic cult). At least they have the courage of their convictions, even though they're wrong.

...the guy is a moron...not that I endorse the punishment. The punishment just reflects how backwards the people think in Dubai. That being said, if he is too stupid to understand the culture he should not have went there. I am some what stunned he found a place to consume all that alcohol to begin with. My understanding is liquor/beer is prohibited in Dubai so he must have consumed same at a private residence? In any event, a stupid culture and a stupid foreigner don't mix...
When I was in Dubai in the early 90's, there were all sorts of places to drink. I always enjoyed going to Dubai, and never had a problem there. I also knew the local customs, and wasn't dumb enough to run around and insult people.
Of course a citizen of the UAE can go to to Great Britain (or any other Western Country) and insult Christianity all he wants.
Should have been given another drink and a bullhorn. Muslims need hear a little bit of reality if they are ever going to mature out of the seventh century mindset their religion is stuck in.
Could this be an indication of the relative strength of faith in the differing religions?
After all, if my faith can be shaken by some slobbering moron, a TV show, or political partisan (!), how strong was my faith to begin with?

I have an English in-law who works in Dubai. I don't know what he thinks about Islam, but he has absolutely no respect for the work ethic of the arab nationals. He says they only appear at work to pick up their paychecks.
I thought alcohol was forbidden.
