Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) said Tuesday that he did not give staffer Phillip Thompson the pistol whose possession got the aide arrested Monday when he tried to enter the Russell Senate office building. I have never carried a gun in the Capitol complex and I did not give the weapon to Phillip Thompson, and thats all that I think Ill say, Webb told reporters.
I think this is one of those very unfortunate situations where, completely inadvertently, he took the weapon into the Senate yesterday, Webb added. The senator noted that he was in New Orleans from Friday until Monday. He speculated that the incident happened because three of his cars were moved because of the trip.
Webb also pointed out that he could not go into too many specifics because Thompson is being arraigned Tuesday.
However, the senator made some broad points related to the incident, including his support for gun rights.
Everyone here knows that I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, that I have had a permit to carry a weapon in Virginia for a long time, and I believe that its important its important for me, personally, and for a lot of people in the situation that Im in, to be able to defend myself and my family.
Can we say COVER-UP?
Three cars?
A man that doesnt know the responsibility that goes with gun ownership can never be looked upon to protect our rights as gun owners.
Webb is a "loose cannon". (So to speak.)
Needs to be a House investigation into this. Webb should be forced to testify.
Yeah! So, Phil, exactly how DID you come into possession of this weapon?
Didn't think someone with a D- by their name like that was allowed to carry a gun anyway. Isn't that in the rules somewhere?
Depends on the definition of "his".............
Really taking one for the team, here.
Quite a carbon footprint our dem senators have.
What a tool this dude is..
he could just pick up the phone, make a few calls and the whole thing get dismissed if he wanted to.
He can ask Patrick Kennedy how to lie about tangles with the DC fuzz.
Anyone know WHO the gun is registered to?
Maybe Bush should pardon his buddy... just to sour their relationship even further :)
The ownership should be easy to find out. Trace the serial number. I bet the weapon is a .45 ACP bought by Webb in Virginia. IMHO, the D.C. gun laws are flatly stupid and ineffective. But, Webb may find out the hard way, like many before him, that the coverup is worse than the original snafu.
Covering up what?
Webb is a total POS, as if anybody didn't already know that.
Yesterday's new was the gun was registered to Webb.
