This is a video of a 48-minute speech plus Q&A at Heritage Foundation by Evan Sayet, a former liberal. Very insightful in explaining the leftist mindset today.
My first thought after watching this presentation was to send it to my more liberal friends. My second thought was that they would not have the patience to sit through the talk without closing their minds or mashing the stop button.

Thanks for the PING. Will check out video later.
Like his friend who really did hate his wife, the LEFT REALLY DOES HATE AMERICA.
These people are the 60s leftists who were swallowed into the KGBs propaganda swamp, but on how they got to where they are, IMHO, he is right on the money.
This virus was not home grown. It was exported from Moscow.
Put this Evan Sayet speech together with this essay by Arthur Herman: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1805986/posts
and it presents quite a pattern of Leftist efforts to bring down Western Civilization. The French Left surrendered Algeria, then exported the design to John Kerry and the American Left for use on Vietnam, and now the design is used again to pre-emptively surrender to the Islamists.

That stems from the belief that everything is relative. If there are a handful of really great artists to whom nobody else can compare, then that means almost everyone, even those who would seek to learn from those artists, is inferior. But if that handful of great artists were destroyed, then everyone else would be much better by comparison.
The same relativism applies to certain moral issues like abortion. If someone has had an abortion and is feeling guilty about it, liberal moral relativism would suggest that the way to erase that guilt is to promote abortion so that many more people have one. In that way, one will no longer be worse than everyone else. Of course, trying to clear a healthy conscience in that way will never work--it will merely exacerbate the guilt--but the increasing guilt will lead to increasing desperation to get everyone to the same level.
The real turning point, IMHO, would be to wake up some people (those who have had abortions would be very good for this) to the fact that the way to clear one's conscience after having done something bad is to recognize that it was bad, and why it was bad, and to discourage others from following in one's footsteps. The message "Don't do as I did" is not hypocritical when delivered by someone who regrets his actions. If women who have had abortions were to start waking up to this, there could be a sea change on the issue that would wipe out the Democrats in only a few years.
A single 45 minute talk is going to be way too long to work on a liberal. Better is to try to ask questions, although cornering liberals won't do any good. Since their liberal beliefs are axiomatic, anything in the real world which would seem to contradict their belief must have some other explanation, even if it hasn't been discovered yet.
It is clearly apparent that Evan has thought carefully about what makes a Liberal think what he does. I don't think it would do any good to ask any of my Liberal friends to watch Evan's speech. Their thought process has made them immune to logic and it would bounce off of them like water off a duck's back.
IMHO Listening to Rush Monday and Tuesday (4/2/7 and 4/3/7), it appears to me that Rush also viewed this video clip over the weekend. Rush has come up with a number of Evan's talking points in his monologs both days. But it could be just convergent thought or insight.

As a smoker, being a social pariah cast out into the cold and rain, sometimes has its small bonuses. As my wife and I were laying over in Vegas last spring on the way home from Seoul, Evan scored a light from me, and we had thereby a delightful 20 minute conversation with him while he was in transit to DC to make this speech.
Too bad the actor that played Josey Wales lost sight of that fact.
