WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An aide to U.S. Sen. Jim Webb, a Virginia Democrat and gun rights advocate, was arrested on Monday by Capitol Police for carrying a loaded gun and two full ammunition magazines into a Senate office building.
Media outlets cited an unnamed congressional official who said the gun belonged to Webb, but his office refused to comment...
Webb said in a December 2006 interview with the Richmond Times Dispatch newspaper that he did not regularly carry a gun but liked having the option to do so.
"I value the opportunity to be able to protect myself, depending on situations. But no, I don't walk around with a weapon on me all of the time," he told the newspaper.

Webb, living proof of the cliche'
"Be careful what you vote for, you just might get it."
"for carrying a loaded gun and two full ammunition magazines into a Senate office building"
What caliber?
Republicans need to know exactly what munitions threat level they face everyday in a secured Senate office building!
I tell ya, you can't make this stuff up!
Given Webb's obvious instability I think we're lucky the other guy was carrying it.
The government needs to do a background check on this weapon and see who it really belongs to and where it came from!
Webb will be charged with no crime. His aide will take the fall 100%.
Given Webb's obvious instability I think we're lucky the other guy was carrying it.
Webb is a nutjob, seriously, the aide may have been carrying it to protect himself FROM Webb.
> Given Webb's obvious instability I think we're lucky the other guy was carrying it.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, well, well....whatever will the Democrats do with THIS?
Bet some folks are wishing bout now they had good ole Senator Allen back in D.C.
Webb is a senator, not a congressman.
This aid should fight this unconstitutional law(s). I see no problem with him carrying ... especially in the Senate building.
You're half correct:
The United States Congress is the legislature of the United States federal government. It is bicameral, comprising the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Yeah, if I had to work with such a criminal element everyday, I wouldn't want to be unarmed, either.
Exactly what 'situation' is Sen. Webb expecting to encounter while at work?
Why not a less then one term senator is currently in second for the top spot ;)
This looks very bad for Mr. Webb. Can you imagine the uproar if former Senator Allen had ever done this. He was run out of town on a rail for using a questionable ethnic term. Democrats can do no wrong.
I think this guy has several violations besides those associated with his carrying the gun and ammunition into a federal building. I believe he can also be charged with violating the Washington, DC laws against carring/possessing the same.
It will be interesting to see is there is any serious charge that results besides probation.
