Al Gore has taken some heat lately for spreading the word about global warming.
First there were the allegations by a conservative group, the day after Gore collected an Oscar for his movie "An Inconvenient Truth," that his Nashville mansion consumes more than 20 times as much electricity as the average American household. Then there were charges that zinc mining on Tennessee property owned by Gore tarnished his environmentalist credentials.
By the time he arrived on Capitol Hill this past week to testify about his signature issue, the barbs Gore's congressional adversaries hurled at him sounded relatively benign.
"It seems that everything is blamed on global warming," Republican Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma complained. "How come you guys never seem to notice when it gets cold?"
He then confronted Gore with the number of record cold temperatures measured at U.S. weather stations during the month of January. (This would be the same January that was part of the warmest Northern Hemisphere winter on record.)
"We need to be deliberative and careful when we talk about so-called scientific facts," Republican Rep. Joe Barton of Texas lectured, before enumerating a list of things he believed Gore got wrong in the award-winning documentary.
One of the problems Gore, environmentalists and the scientific community have in conveying the seriousness of global warming is that its most severe effects to date have been felt in the polar regions, far from the places where most politicians and their constituents live.

But, but... He KILLED manbearpig!

The implication - if you dont agree with Gore, youre too stupid to realize that far-away problems could still affect you.
The idea that youve evaluated the science, heard both sides of the debate, and came to a conclusion that doesnt not agree with Gores outlook is impossible. Youre just dumb.
Gore is lying about what the scientists are saying. And ABC makes the situation worse by not doing the first duty of any reporter on any story -- get the facts right, and let the chips fall where they may.
Congressman Billybob
The Vast Right Wing Conspiracy strikes again!
The thing is Gore makes such an easy and, I might add, fun target.
So now telling the truth about Gores lies is considered an attack.
Did you know that algore is in trouble with the EPA for the zinc mining operations that are going on in his Tenn. property?
Also as for the global warming stuff, with the sun's magnetic field in flux & the Earth's magnetic field also in flux and the Earth's iron core, you get an electrical disturbance and a byproductic of that is .......
HEAT!!
That is the cause of the so called global warming stuff, just basic magnetic/electrical therory...
Wouldn't that make it regional warming and not global?
Allegations by a conservative group? Hello?
It was the utilities company... hence the copy of the bill.
I doubt the temperature climbs high enough to melt polar ice, and even if it does, I doubt the temperature stays there for very long.
Where's the barf alert?
There. . .fixed it.

Not according to NASA who said it was a normal winter but hey, why let facts get in the way of a good line of propaganda.
Excellent question!
Record Low Temps Seen in Parts of U.S., Dec. 2005
The mercury dived to a record 45 below at West Yellowstone, Mont., the frequently cold spot at the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park, the National Weather Service said. The old record for Dec. 7 was 39 below, set in 1927.
The cold even extended south to the Texas Panhandle, where Lubbock shivered at a record low 6 above zero, the weather service said.
Elsewhere Wednesday, the weather service said record lows for the date included 28 below zero at Drummond, Mont., where the date's previous record was 21 below in 1971; 26 below at Seeley Lake, Mont.; 25 below at Laramie, Wyo., tying a 1978 reading; 17 below at Alliance, Neb.; 19 below at Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and 3 below at Lincoln, Ill.

I beg to differ, penguins live in antarctica and algore says they'll all die, so he DOES have constituents there..give him some time and he'll figure out how to give them the vote too..
