It's really not a lot in the D.C. area, or probably big pieces of the East Coast, Chicago, L.A. or other places. It sounds like a lot...but it's just not. We moved in 1993 making a little more than that...and it was tough even with a budget.

The guy probably had no business buying anything at that salary.

$30k/year is 'good money'? Where do you live? You can't even move out of your parents' basement on that on LI. The city's worse.

When I was active duty I was making over twice that but the idea of buying a $410,000 house like the lady in the story never crossed my mind. These people are just plain blind to reality.
