Ex-Official: Russia [Spetsnaz Units] Moved Saddam's WMD
NewsMax ^ | February 19, 2006 | Kenneth R. Timmerman

A top Pentagon official who was responsible for tracking Saddam Hussein's weapons programs before and after the 2003 liberation of Iraq, has provided the first-ever account of how Saddam Hussein "cleaned up" his weapons of mass destruction stockpiles to prevent the United States from discovering them. Former Deputy Undersecretary of Defense John Shaw told an audience at a privately sponsored "Intelligence Summit" in Alexandria: "They were moved by Russian Spetsnaz (special forces) units out of uniform, that were specifically sent to Iraq to move the weaponry and eradicate any evidence of its existence...

I cling to the thought that we aren't aware of what actions he is or has been taking.

It's just my opinion, but I've always thought that it was the fact that Russia was involved that has made this such a sensitive subject. If you put it all out there, then you have to deal with what repercussions the Russians should suffer for having a hand in it. I bet if you delve into it deeper that France was giving Saddam a hand with his cleanup somewhere, too.

I think this is pretty much the same reason he tiptoes around the immigration issue. If he puts his foot down about immigration, then you have to deal with Mexico's reaction which is sure to be very ugly.

I think in his mind he is trying to maintain a balance and he doesn't want anymore enemies, but well...I'm not too thrilled about it, to say the least.

Immigration is connected to the human trafficking network.

Human Trafficking is embedded with Russian Organized Crime.

The one great fault the Bush Administration has, they don't tell us anything. Maybe they don't because they can't. But it doesn't help us at all with what is going on.

The lie of no WMDs has been repeated so many times that it is now perceived as fact.

Any current proof of their existance would be rejected easily. Sad but true..

Caleprnia: Thanks for the ping.

Airborne: The problem is that the President and none in the intelligence agencies are not 100% sure that the WMD or precursors to the WMD were moved out of Iraq by the Russians or others.

I still believe that Saddam regime buried the precursors to make Chemical Weapons in the Western Desert, the Anbar province. In fact it was better for them to produce and bury the precursors rather than the final chemical weapons product, because A: it will last longer and it take only few days to make the final product once the precursors are available, and B: they can always claim it is for industrial use since all these precursors are dual use materials.

I found a document that I did not publish on FR and I will not because of security concerns where there is a hint about possible places in the desert where they can bury the precursors for Chemical Weapons. Back in September of last year I informed the CIA via their website and the Military intelligence via e-mail about this document and the possibility that it may be a burial place for precursors to make Chemical Weapons.

"risky"? You mean, like, he might get criticized by people who do not like him, including the media? Yeah, wouldn't want that to happen!

Risky as in turning more people against the war by making it look like he's peddling theories in order to make excuses.

And attacking the "we attacked because Saddam had nukes" myth was my policy suggestion, not what I necessarily think Bush is doing.

Always attacking the President. Show me in the last 100 post that you posted how many times you attacked the democrats versus President Bush and the Republican Party. I wonder why the moderators tolerate such a Bush and Republican hater like you.

Hitler said in Mein Kampf. If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes true.

Everone suspected Russia was behind it, didn't they get fired upon by U.S. troops during the first days of the war?

Yup.

Ever hear back from them?

I'm guessing they looked into it but never responded, now that would be typical.

BTW keep up the good work FRiend.

President Bush has to know this, but does nothing. So if he doesn't care, why should anyone else? I really do not understand the man.

I think he knows it, but can't publicize to the American people that he knows the Russians did it, since it would poison any future hope he has to swing the Russians back out of the Soviet-ish path they've resumed.

Informing the American public of such a profound backstab would have a national momentum that Bush would not be able to reverse, and would completely jeopardize his laudable yet hopelessly naive hope of bringing Russia into the orb of the West.

Meanwhile, I think Putin is quite aware of Bush's naive hopes concerning his commitment to democracy, and is cynically using it to position Russia against the US without cost or repercussions.

The coming war with Iran will decidedly expose Putin as an enemy of the West.

Nope, I did not get any response. They may not even read it, they may have read it and dismissed it instanly, or they may have read it, investigated little bit and found that it is meaningless... I have no idea.

Thanks for the info.

As for the CIA, I have some reservations as to their motives.

Thank you for your excellent service in translating documents.

When I see your screen name I always look to see what you're saying, because I know it's trustworthy.

The Progressive Marxist Left will never admit that. Even if we got Putin and the teams responsible to go to the Senate and testify to that. It doesn't meet their idea of the truth.

[... how many times you attacked the democrats versus President Bush and the Republican Party. ..]

The democrats are not worth attacking here at FR..
The republicans who have "a name" of being republicans "IS"..
Democrats are FOR a democracy, Republicans are FOR this republic..
For republicans have a name for being one way, but they are not anymore..

Republicans have become democrats(generally)..
Clean your own house before attempting to cleaning someones else's house..
