As a ten year Cancer survivor myself and having Family Members right now with very sticky situations Prostate Cancer (2) and probable Stage 2 Colon Cancer, plus recent removal of Squamous carcinoma from another Family Member, I believe that People like Edwards that sue everything/anyone they can for Money and profit are mostly to blame for the best Doctors leaving. They also make it bad on any decent Lawyer that wants the best for his client that actually has a case.

If there’s one thing Iran knows how to do, its take hostages. However, the world’s a different place than it was in 1979 –and we have 130,000 troops parked next door. These days, the capture of troops-as-hostages is usually a casus belli (see Israel last summer with the initiation of a hot war with Hamas and Hizballah.)
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Despite their domestic wobbly-ness, I expect the Brits to play hardball on this. We should play hardball too.
I also expect the anti-war crowd to forward the following premises: (1) the captured sailors were on a secret mission to attack Iran, which was only acting in self-defense when it graciously subdued them. (2) We should just do a hostage trade with the Iranians, trading captured Iranians in Iraq back to the Islamic republic.

Many of the Hmong of Laos are still fighting and on the run from communist enemies. Others are just now surrendering, more than 30 years after Democrats in the US Congress cut off funds to them in 1975.

The Boxer led group is a Expeditionary Strike Group with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit on board… The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operation Capable), or MEU(SOC), is designed to be the first on-scene in the event of crisis. It takes more than 2,100 men and women to form the 26th MEU (SOC) team.
The Charles de Gaulle is accompanied by French Task Force 473, which consists of five warships: the FNS Cassard guided missile destroyer, the FNS Tourville anti-submarine frigate, the FNS Dupleix destroyer adapted for escorting oil tankers and the FNS Marne, a command and supply vessel. Commander of the French task force is Rear Adm. Xavier Magne. Commander of the American flotilla is Rear Adm. Kevin Quinn.

Thanks. He is still in ABC. One (mis)reporter apologized for his mistake about Edwards. Another (mis)reporter Mike Allen is yet to apologize for his wrong-reporting. Per his report - Gonzales is history by last week-end. Seems like they don't need to apologize, if they mis-report about the admn. or republicans - that 's what they 're doing all along.
The down side you point out, that they could simply buy them from other terrorist nations is irrelevant since they could do that now.

We froze billions of dollars of Iranian assets in the US. We don't have diplomatic relations with them. Here is a good overview on specific things the US has done vis-a-vis its relations with Iran since the hostage crisis. To say nothing has been done is simply not true.

JMHO, but I'd consider this Iranian nuke dilemma as the same type of situation as dealing with rattlesnakes.
Leave the rattles alone and aim for the head.
Fortunately, you are not the one that needs to be convinced. Your policy would be a disaster and would never garner support politically, here or abroad.
I've no doubt your are right about Elizabeth Edwards being on board with the decision.
I've always considered her another Hillary in pushing her husband's ambitions. She's probably smarter and more political than he is.
But speaking pragmatically, I just don't see this decision flying with the public.
It's not what most people would do, and they won't be able to relate to it.
Edwards didn't have a snowball's chance in global warming of winning anyhow. So he might as well look classy in withdrawing.
