Iraqi police celebrated Saturday after approximately 600 anti-tank land mines were seized in a raid in the Baghdad suburb of Sadr City.
The mines were put on display at the Iraqi Police 8th Division's headquarters.
Mines have been used in numerous "Improvised Explosive Devise" attacks on Iraqi and coalition forces.
Police were shown in AP Television footage celebrating the success of the raid, chanting "anyone who kills other humans must go to hell."
A video clip of the police with the mines is embeded in the page that I linked to.
The article leaves out an important fact. They have to know who made them.
Man the whole country is a giant arsenal! It will be a generation before all that is trimmed down..if then!

What a great indication of the excellence we have put in place by training the iraqi forces.
jmc1969 posts should be required reading for anyone interested in Iraq.
We needed to either blow up or secure the massive arsenals Saddam had in different parts of Iraq, we chose neither.
That should put a serious dent in roadside bombings. But as another poster pointed out, it would be nice to know who made these. Possibly Iranian?
My guess would be the Soviets.

Jeff, know anybody who can identify those mines and who might have produced them?
Back when the hunt for WMDs was hot there were some pieces describing the size of the large installation and all the looting going on.
"The trouble is that some of those things cover square miles and we really did not have enough troops to secure them and fight the fight."
You are right, certainly another 100K troops would have been very nice.
Looks like Mookies toy chest is being cleaned out.
Watch yer step.
And shouldn't those things be labeled "Do not stack more than 4 high"?
Wonder if SF Nancy would like one of these. I know where she could put it.
Not sure, but look like an Italian makes to me. They make a similar V-22.
Our guys found quite a few of those in Afghanistan...

Thank you, Paul Bremer.
If it were not for such fools as he, this would be all different.
But, Paul Bremer was a Rumsfeld appointee. I always thought he was tied to Colin Powell!
Rumsfeld has made many serious mistakes in the aftermath. History will not be kind, imo.
I hate to second guess them doing their job, but why bring 600 mines to their headquarters? Why not a bomb disposal location, or at least an empty field?
Somethings need to be learned through trial and error.
