Several foreign embassies in Teheran are updating their emergency evacuation plans should a Western or Israeli attack on Iran occur.
According to foreign sources, foreign diplomats believe a possible attack would take place before the end of 2007. By that time, Iran might have enough enriched uranium to cause a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe from radioactive fallout should its nuclear facilities be damaged or destroyed in an attack.
Embassies in all countries generally have evacuation plans for their staff, but foreign sources describe the general atmosphere in Iran as one of heightened preparedness. Recently, several diplomatic missions based in Teheran have begun to reassess their plans, and embassies without permanent security officers have requested them.
Embassy experts reportedly are testing various evacuation options and logistics, such as timing routes to different destinations by different types of vehicles. The plans include evacuation for all staff.

How about contingency plans if Iran wants to take embassy staff as hostages??
We stand upon the brink...
Thank God, Bush is in office. He will fight.
Democrats will do nothing and allow madmen to gain nuclear weapons.
We need to develop person-less Embassies for dangerous places.
Staff them with computers and video cams. All contact with the locals is electronic.
I'm waiting for the day when I see the words, "SPECIAL REPORT" on my TV screen. It's coming....
I thank G-d too, for GWB as our commander in chief!
But is it newsworthy that embassies in rogue nations make contingency plans? Especially in Tehran, not known for its adherence to diplomatic niceties.
bttt
Think about it--you don't look twice at the janitor, do you? He has keys to every important office...and the turnover rate is so high, if you see a new guy for a day, two days, a week, you shrug it off.
Credit to G.K. Chesterton for a similar idea in one of his short stories.
Cheers!
Will this be the big one?
Nutjob himself, in several interviews, indicated they planned something for April.
I was having an email discussion with a liberal friend of mine -- a rabid Bush hater -- and he hysterically said that the world is in an uproar and that everybody is getting nuclear weapons. So, I presented him with facts that seemed to shut him up fast.
Facts:
Under Clinton: India gets nuclear weapons, Pakistan gets nuclear weapons, N. Korea accomplishes highly enriched uranium.
Under Bush: Libya gives up nuclear weapons program, N. Korea possibly to give up weapons program, Saddam will never have a nuclear weapons program, and Iran is still a question mark.
Score card:
Clinton: 3 countries nuclearize.
Bush: 1 country denuclearizes (Libya), 1 country will never get them (Iraq), 1 country possibly to give up nukes (N. Korea), and 1 country being dealt with (Iran).
That shut him up but good!
This is SOP.
That, I am sure, has been part of their planning since 1979.
I hope so, anywys...
Bet THAT left a mark... ;-)
Make a new plan, Sam.
Get on the bus, Gus.
No need to be coy, Roy.
Get yourself free.
No better time to leave than the present.
The Iranians are not going to fall for the "I'm a Canadian and here's my passport to prove it" ploy this time around...
We will send jimmah carter

Why would any country have an embassy in tehran?
Great idea-- let's fit him with fins and a guidance system and release him over Tehran!
