An LGF reader emailed the link to this video of the Portland anarchists who burned a soldier in effigy. For once, I’m speechless. The photographs were only the tip of the iceberg; listen to what they’re chanting.

The protesters in Portland, Oregon, last weekend didn’t only burn a US soldier in effigy. According to an editorial in today’s Portland Tribune, one of them also defecated on a burning US flag.

This splinter group of protesters showed its support for “peace” by burning a U.S. soldier in effigy. It exhibited its supposedly pacifist nature by knocking a police officer off his bike — an action that brought out the police riot squad.

Perhaps the most disturbing scene of the afternoon, however, involved the man who pulled down his pants in front of women and children and defecated on a burning U.S. flag. This disgusting act actually elicited cheers from some members of the crowd, but we hope that the emotion it produces in the community is one of revulsion.

Yep...they seemed pretty tight too. Seemed like a good bunch of guys, I saw them in Arlington National Cemetery the next day when I was visiting my dad.

I remember something similar to that happening here in Raleigh. From a News and Observer article from 6 Nov 2004:

"Hearing a commotion, John Robbins and a neighbor captured and detained three protesters until police arrived.

"I found them between the garages taking off their black clothes," Robbins said, adding that one of the female protesters bit him on the shoulder.

"They were saying they didn't hurt anybody, but my thing for going out there was to hold them responsible for the damage they had done," he said. "Doing this sort of thing just isn't right."

The incident was the vandalism of the North Carolina GOP headquarters by anarchists during the week of the 2004 general election. I happened to be living in the neighborhood back then, but unfortunately wasn't home at the time. As it happened, it didn't take much to bring these chihuahuas to heel.
