UFOs flew over Phoenix in '97, Symington says By Tom Beal ARIZONA DAILY STAR

"The universe is a big place, and we're conceited to think we're alone." Fife Symington, former Ariz. governor Former Gov. Fife Symington says now that those strange lights that appeared over Phoenix a decade ago were from another world and that he had a close encounter with an alien craft on March 13, 1997.

"I'm a pilot and I know just about every machine that flies. It was bigger than anything that I've ever seen. It remains a great mystery. Other people saw it, responsible people," Symington said Thursday. "I don't know why people would ridicule it."

Symington, who was in his second term as governor of Arizona during the Phoenix Lights incident, recently told a UFO investigator making a documentary that he had kept quiet about his personal close encounter because he didn't want to panic the populace. He repeated his story Thursday on CNN, saying the craft he saw was "enormous. It just felt other-worldly. In your gut, you could just tell it was other-worldly."

1. That doesn't fit all the observed and photographed orbs. Many are seen with the naked eye for an extended time before, during and/or after being photographed.

2. There are ways to rule out such photographic artifacts at lease most of the time.

3. In some of the crop circle situations, some vegitation has been obscuring PART of the photographed orb.

And move from well north of Phoenix to Tucson at 30-40 mph.

I'm sorry. Are we talking about "The Phoenix Lights" from 13 March 1997, or are we talking about "the greatly enhanced over time by multiple UFO "experts" offering a large collection of books and DVDs at a nominal fee" lights? Because if we're talking about the Phoenix Lights from 13 March 1997, I've got a couple questions...why, considering the lights were witnessed and photographed by thousands, do the only available videos and photos show essentially the same light array, taken at essentially the same time, in a southwesterly direction from Phoenix? Could you direct me to another photo from that day showing something different? And why are all the photos from that day taken at long range. If hundreds of people were snapping photos, why did they all quit as the lights supposedly flew over their heads?

I guess I don't really expect you'll answer. But I'd be curious if anyone else would like to offer any info.

Your explanation still does not account for the folks directly under the large UFO who saw the effects on the night sky being blacked out by such a large craft over such a huge area.

I'm familiar with google and several other search engines. No where can I find any other photos or video of the Phoenix Lights except for those I described. Again, I ask, why is it that all those photos show the same thing (lights to the southwest, at a distance) and NONE of them show the much more incredible event of a 3 mile long craft floating silently overhead? Surely the same people taking the first pictures wouldn't stop taking pictures of a far more incredible event. Literally thousands of people in Phoenix witnessed the lights. Nobody bothered to photograph them with they supposedly drifted over the city?!?!?

Ask the 300-600 witnesses Mike Fortson interviewed. I wasn't there.

His own reason was that he did not want to miss a second of the observation--the incredible event to look for a camera that likely had dead batteries anyway.

If I run across some other photos I'll ping you. I don't recall what other photos were at the links I posted.

There were some other photos and videos. One supposedly so impressive that the MIB confiscated it.

I live in PHX, the lights are nothing.

Flares, from the Goldwater range, a few airplanes flying at night, and hysteria.

Add in 10 years, sweeps month for the networks, a stupid populace and you have an industry for kooks.

No photos, just lights that suddenly blinked out as they went between the line of sight of the viewer and the peaks of South Mountain.
