What I'd like to know is what business is this of the government? Since when does allowing a child or an adult for that matter to over eat constitute abuse??

Since the folks that have been sent to DC the past 30-40 years have slowly, but surely, eroded the Constitution so that it doesn't mean much anymore. Of course unless it suits their fancy at any given moment.

Above statement excludes Ron Paul.

All of us smokers have warned on this board the slippery slope we've been subjected to because of our habit.

We are not surprised at this. We knew that once the smokers were under the thumb of the government and PC crowd, the next group would be the obese. And mark my words, they won't stop at obesity. Just being overweight will be cause for all sorts of restrictions.

When the mother could be (de facto) murdering her child.

Exactly.

The fundamental question is: does the child belong to the parent or the state? Where and who draw the line on the definition of abuse?

This child does have a weight problem, but I find it hard to believe it is simply from overeating.

Most normal children, especially at seven years old would have a very difficult time gaining THAT much weight

There is an underlining problem here. Mom may not be helping , but I seriouly doubt she caused it
