Just saw in 7:00-7:30 segment of GMA.
Iranian navy siezed about a dozen UK sailors. Sailors were conducting routine shipping embargo inspection in northern end of Persian Gulf.
Sailors have been taken back to Iran
Can't find it anywhere else.
I call Iranian President part time US hostage taker
Whats interesting is the recent arrival of the French Nuclear Carrier battle fleet to join up with our two battle carrier groups. I wonder how that will play out if there is shooting?
Thanks, I didn't know that.
The al-Queda take on this is mind-boggling. They say that this is all a publicity stunt, staged to escalate political tensions. Meanwhile, the US is cooperating with Iran to exterminate the Sunnis from Iraq. The Queda-types big worry is that Iran will ruin their plans for an "Islamic crescent".
Is this the first incident like this? Seems like there was something similar in the past year. What was the outcome of that?
"Middle Eastern cultures understand only two things......fear and power. "
I agree.
They're also particularly skillful at lying and suffer no pangs of conscience. They are consummate and incorrigible liers.
Oh, boy. What are they trying to divert attention from now? Anybody doubt that they want to hide something or change the topic at this particular point? Something fishy going on.
I hope Blair still has it to take these guys on.
I think it was 2004. They held them for awhile, the sailors had to "apologize" on television, and then they let them go.
OH I don't know
All I know this first time I hear Iran go after one of our allies
I don't think "he" may be the one calling off his trip. I think Geroge Bush may put the kebosh on his UN appearance as long as they are holding British sailors.
If Bush doesn't, I'll be damned disappointed.
They will slowly evolve into a strong military ally. Their troops aren't afraid to fight, they are just looking for the opportunity to prove themselves. The whole thing about Dracula is sort of weird but, oh well. (jk):)
Okay, that sounds about right. This one is twisted a lot tighter by the present international climate.
Embargoes are also acts of war.
We have been fighting a war for a long time with Iran.
Ooops, I think it was 2005. In any case, it could be the Iranians are relying on the same thing to happen in this case (no military response, that is). The reasonable assumption is that it will be just another staged diplomatic incident that ends quietly, with only a bit of humiliation for the West (apparently at a level we find acceptable), and a propaganda boost to Iran's image of being powerful. And it gets Ahmanutjob off the hook from having to be present in the US and appear at the UN.

There is also the Iranian Naval exercise in the Gulf and this incident might have been nothing more than enthusiasm by a lower officer. Still, the longer it drags on the greater the possibility of escalation.
Congers up 911 memories. We know what Todd Beamer would do! The situation would be over, or we'd be attacking, by now.
Damn shame he couldn't have lived to lead again!
Certainly within 6000 nautical... as the "crow" flies!
Crude oil is up 0.88 and edging higher on top of 1.75 increase yesterday when Alqaida threatened to blow up 100 miles of pipeline in Iraq, Saudi, Nigeria.
Yes, at first I was wondering if it was just a sort of miscommunication, where somebody at a lower level got carried away. But somehow, I don't think that's how Iran does things. One of the articles mentioned that the sailors were seized by the "Revolutionary Guards," so I think the order would have to come from higher up the food chain.
