...We constantly present the false impression that government can solve problems that government in America was designed not to solve. Families are significantly less important in the development of children today than they were 30 or 40 years ago. Religion has less influence than it did 30 or 40 years ago. Communities don't mean what they meant 30 or 40 years ago.
As Americans, we're not sure we share values. We're sometimes even afraid to use the word values. We talk about teaching ethics in schools -- people say, "What ethics? Whose ethics? Maybe we can't." And they confuse that with teaching of religion. And we are afraid to reaffirm the basics upon which a lawful and a decent society are based. We're almost embarrassed by it.
.... What we don't see is that freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do.
... The fact is that we're fooling people if we suggest to them the solutions to these very, very deep-seated problems are going to be found in government.
... They are going to have to be just as solid and just as strong in teaching every single youngster their responsibility for citizenship. We're going to find the answer when schools once again train citizens. Schools exist in America and have always existed to train responsible citizens of the United States of America.
If they don't do that, it's very hard to hold us together as a country, because it's shared values that hold us together.

wow, zotted :p
I hope you get a chance to read my posts, sweetheart.
A little advice. At your young, uneducated and inexperienced age, often times it's better to listen more and talk less.
I'm still re-reading and thinking about post # 22.
The similarities are frightening!
"Observation: You seem unable to control your temper. You don't seem to be able to take on the issues or even the techniques of a debater. Since yesterday when you revealed your liberal bent you've done little more than resort to 3rd grade "you're a doodiehead" type snips at me and others. If you don't want to take on the issues themselves and just want to snip at other posters in these, perhaps you should stay out of them because your rising level of childishness will get you in trouble sooner or later."
Evidently it just did
Semper Fi
Are you able to see the pattern that is necessary to support rudy?
Anything that discredits him is:
-old
-out of context
- just a mean attack
However, things from the same time are used to bolster him. The claim of him cutting taxes are not provided in context of spending going up and his being against cutting other taxes.
If you want context, this quote fits in with his other actions on the first and 2nd amendment. That's why people are offended by it. If it was one isolated sentence in a stellar pro personal freedom career, people wouldn't give it much credence. But since it fits with his other past actions, it indicts him instead of exhonerating him.
Which was why it confused me when I saw that you posted this story with that headline. Perhaps you were hoping to have this make rudy look better, but it does just the opposite. It reveals him as being in favor of more governmental control of individual lives.
I ran into her on a rudy thread yesterday. After I was able to get her to 'out' her true self on the thread, she stopped trying to defend a position and just resorted to making snips at me and others. Then she jumped on this thread and started up again. She was running very close to the edge and it didn't seem like she could stop herself.
Are you the kid on the bus pulling the legs off a fly and laughing and then blaming the kid next to you for it.
You are some rotten piece of work.
One thing about Libs, they rarely can contain themselves when faced with calm determination.
In your blind rage of not having a "pure" candidate that walks on water and will bend to your bidding, you have turned into a one man band twisting everything about a candidate that will be a great president for the U.S. Shame. Shame.
??????????????
What planet do you orbit?
Cute but so predictable. ***yawn***
Training them to submit to government authority like good little children should.
How clever.
Do you write for Letterman?
LOL Good point.
I have nothing against Duncan Hunter. In fact I think he's a good man and a fine conservative rep.
But I have consistently found Hunter supporters to be the most obnoxious people on all of FR. It is a shame too since they are doing the man no good.
Oh well, Hunter would still be a solid choice for VP.
I take it you're a Liberal
Wow, the Rudy supporters sure do have a hard time with fact and truth, either speaking it or accepting it.
The more I hear the vile coming from posters who want Hunter, Romney or playboy "will I do this Year" Thompson (who isn't going to run) attack a good Republican, the more I would never support their choice. Is this the plan? Are these posters here to disrupt party unity?
Did you read her post?
What gutter did you crawl out of?
