John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.
"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. It’ll be another couple of days before there’s complete clarity."
"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.
As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."

I agree. I only hope that is the case on the GOP side, too. I would hate to see a prolonged GOP bloodbath while Hitlary has an extra 5 months to "look regal" in the MSM and start attacking the GOP....

I may disagree with most of his politics, but I believe this is a man who truly loves his wife and family. After losing their son and the first round with Elizabeth's cancer, this must be such a difficult thing for this family to face once again.

When assholes in DU were wishing death upon Laura Ingraham two years ago after Laura's diagnosis, Elizabeth Edwards to her credit posted in DU to denounce these posts.

Conservatives don't have to "refrain" from being jackasses. Whenever someone from any party dies or gets injured the posters always post prayers and warm wishes. There may be a few nutcases hanging out on FR who are as hateful as most liberals, but they are few and far between I've found.

His wife's condition should be important and a priority for any decent husband, and Edward's character has never been in question.
Just his politics and his trial lawyer personae.
I would hope that her cancer has not metastasized, but if it has, and he is using this as a political victim stunt, it would anger me beyond comprehension.
I can only hope that this is not the case, and he is not that kind of politician.
Me too. His ideas are terrible and he definitely has a slick, cynical, and fake side, but somewhere down in him there is some humanity, judging by this decision.
