Edwards to Suspend Campaign (Update: Wife's cancer has returned - Does not suspend Campaign)
The Politico ^ | March 22, 2007 | Ben Smith

Posted on 03/22/2007 8:23:49 AM PDT by kddid

John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.

"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. It’ll be another couple of days before there’s complete clarity."

"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.

As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."

I thought he said "ten strike."

ten-strike (tnstrk)
n.
1. Sports A strike in bowling.
2. Informal A remarkably successful stroke or act.

Maybe that is what he said....I might have misheard it.

Ten strike makes about as much sense as "tent strike" to me.

I agree with you. Further, I am perplexed as to the rush to inform the public without having all of the test results back. With a lung and possibly other organs affected, I would have waited to make a decision of whether to continue to campaign or not.

The current progression of her cancer is serious. IF anything the Edwards family should be getting out from under stress and spending this time together in peace.. not exhausting her running from campaign stop to campaign stop.

Howard also said something like--it's always exciting when something unexpected happens. What an idiot

What an jack*** Fineman is

Oh yea ... it's real exciting when a women is diagnosed with cancer in her bones and could die ... / HEAVY sarc >

And to think I was worried our side would say something stupid

It is perplexing especially since they are going to continue campaigning...they could have just waited until all of the tests were in...and the prognosis and treatment prescribed.

Then, they would have known ALL that will be involved...and all of the information to give to the press.

Unfortunately, by doing this...it is just way to easy to see this as a sympathy play for more money...

I just heard a reporter for ABC Radio news say that Mrs. Edwards said that she doesn't expect this to significantly change her life.

??????????

When my SIL had a tumor in her breast, they biopsied it one week. The day the results came in she had a central line inserted for chemo and all of the test to see how far the cancer had spread. It was lightening fast.

This play will tag along nicely with Hillarycare. Bet John is looking for the VP spot.

The chemo sessions will be grueling enough. I think there is more to the story. Didn't she mention she's been tired lately? Fatigue and weight loss are not good signs.

Women will want to know why he's not with his wife.

I just pray to God that the first time it comes up it's not out of the mouth of a conservative pundit or Pat Robertson, et al.

A woman (nurse) just called Rush and said that many, many women will be turned off by this...how children go through such trauma seeing a parent sick with cancer, traumatized by the thought of losing that parent. I'm sure the DBM will twist this to blame Rush.

Were I Mrs. Edwards, I too would rally for the campaign to continue.

Were I their child, I'd rally for a calmer, less complicated life.

My mom was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer when I was six. I got the calmer life. Made a huge difference for me and my brothers.

But then again, so much depends upon what all the tests reveal. And if they can "freeze/burn" the bone and contain the cancer cells. This is exactly what gave me my mom for an extra 16 years.

That the cancer has spread to a nearby bone (to the breast) IS positive-negative negative news. My mom's had spread to her shoulder. It's when it shows up farther away from the source origin....

I heard that caller and she is right

Many many moons ago I was one of those kids
My father was first diagnosed with cancer when I was 3 yrs old and died when I was 8

Though I may not have fully understood everything that was going on then ... I still remember the things that happened back then

I'd never heard of these terms, either. I immediately thought of bowling when Rush played the clip. Since "tent strike" didn't come up in my dictionary search, I assume it's "ten."

Well as I just posted to you, Mo1, Rush played these clips today of old Howard and mark my words--Rush will be the one making the headlines tonight as being cruel and insensitive.
