Edwards to Suspend Campaign (Update: Wife's cancer has returned - Does not suspend Campaign)
The Politico ^ | March 22, 2007 | Ben Smith

Posted on 03/22/2007 8:23:49 AM PDT by kddid

John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.

"At a minimum he's going to suspend" the campaign, the source said. "Nobody knows precisely how serious her recurrence is. It’ll be another couple of days before there’s complete clarity."

"For him right now he has one priority which is her health and the security of the two young children," said the friend.

As for the campaign, "You don't shut this machine off completely, but everything will go on hold."

>>>Cancer has metastasized into bone.

Just as happened to my mom.

Edwards should just quit, and make the most of the time he has left with his wife.

Even though I do not agree with any of the views of John Edwards, I cried for his wife. Prayers for her and her family.

"This presentation by Edwards is weird."

Did you hear him say that he was going to suspend his campaign?

Prayers for her. I hold no ill will towards him despite his politics. He is doing the right thing and I pray for their family. Go Edwards on this one!

Thanks again.

"Overall, the chance of recovery (prognosis) for bone cancers has improved significantly since the development of modern chemotherapy.

The chance of recovery will depend on a variety of influences; if the cancer has spread, the type of bone cancer, the size of the tumour, location, the person's general health and other individual factors. Also important is how much of the main tumour can be removed/destroyed by surgery and/or radiotherapy, and how the tumour responds to chemotherapy."

Very sad news, indeed. She will keep a positive attitude. God bless her.

Ha--even Elizabeth got in a dig about the unreliable media.

"Cancer from breast to bone --- treatable but no longer curable. Is that right?"

Correct, it isn't curable, but if the breast cancer has spread only to bone, survival in that situation can ofter be prolonged, maybe for years.

When breast cancer spreads to organs such as the liver or brain, the prognosis is more grim.

Best wishes for the poor woman and her family.

Guys, I went to the official Edwards for President and sent a message to him. It might be a nice gesture if we were to "Freep" his site with "get-well and God-Bless" messages for him and his family.

BUMP!

I was really praying this wasn't the reason for his news conference and withdrawal from the race. Prayers for Mrs. Edwards.

She did not realize that she had cracked a rib.

Does that tell us anything.

Low volume cancer, but in the bone. Does that mean the cancer weakened the bone and cracked the rib?
