There is so much great material here but the last line is a hoot!: "Robertson said he knows of no plans for special treatment of Nowak once she begins duties at the base"

Does this mean no "special treatment" for being a psycho?

In short, a CAPT (O-6) will be doing the job of a LTJG (O-2). This says, "We can't do anything about the fact that she is an active duty officer but we can put her someplace where she can't do any harm and will be out of public view."

As a retired NFO I feel mostly embarrassment that she is one, too.

"Flight" as in aeronautical flight, or "flight" as in "How far is the Mexico border?"

...possession of a steel mallet, rubber tubing and a knife...

Uh oh.... I'd better keep a low profile!

Pre-flight checklist:

1. Diaper - check
2. Wig - check
3. Trenchcoat - check
4. BB gun - check
5. Pepper Spray - check

I'm sure she'll include diapers in all flight plans.

"Robertson said he knows of no plans for special treatment of Nowak once she begins duties at the base"

Does providing her with a constant supply of Depends constitute "special treatment?"

Nowak, however, will not deal hands-on with trainees, Robertson said.

"(Nowak) will have more of a course developer role, rather than be a direct instructor," Robertson said.

I think this means that she'll be given a windowless office in a back corner of a warehouse somewhere and that her "help" will be ignored by the officers running the program. Evidently possession of a mallet, etc., wasn't certain grounds for a court martial, and maybe they decided not to court martial her for adultery for some reason. Not much solid evidence, but a LOT of negative PR.

"...put her someplace where she can't do any harm and will be out of public view."

Charge in civ court w/attempted kidnapping with intent to inflict bodily harm, burglary with an assault using a weapon and battery. Should have charged w/attempted 2nd degree murder as well.

Query: If AW3 Joe Schmucatelli was similarly charged, would not the full force of command jurisprudence fall upon him like a ton of bricks?

Say yes 'cause you know I'm right

The crime occurred in civilian jurisdiction, and the civilians have 'first dibs' on her. Since they have decided to prosecute her, the Navy can't court-martial her. But they can discharge her administratively if she gets convicted in the civilian court.

I think they should just let her husband handle that business. Maybe a divorce with him getting everything, kids, house, alimony etc. in the future? The Navy probably figures that's what will happen and that will be enough punishment. Then again, maybe the woman was truely not responsible for herself and had really lost the "balance of her mind." Maybe they'll put her in mental institution.

In WHAT Navy you know of, are LTJG developing flight lesson plans? Or did you get that confused with flight plans, sans LESSONS?

You folks are going off the deep end against this girl, who has some problems, but she didnt make Captain without having some skills, and you know that.

Or, is that backseater-bitterness I'm reading?

You are better than that.

Apparently "Conduct Unbecoming An Officer" is no longer prohibited under the UCMJ.

Article 80 (attempts) might be the way out of this mess for both the Navy and Nowak........it would parry the issue of her alleged glorious past as well as political opportunism that is sure to flare when seeking resolution begins in earnest.

Will Astronaut Nowak find a new love amongst the trainees as she develops her Flight Lesson Plans?

Answer: Depends.

Adultery is seldom, if ever, a primary charge. It's normally an add-on to others more egregious.

Develop flight plans? That's busy work. Looks like the Navy is just putting her in a corner until the trial.
