The internal polls must have been looking really bad for Blanco. I wonder what the democrats had to promise her to make her go away so quietly? My guess is that a nice chunk of federal reconstruction money will make it to some company she has a major interest in, and she'll get a nice payday.

Another Katrina casualty--faced with the crisis of a lifetime she revealed her lack of character, integrity, and leadership skills.

Let us hope that some day before she passes from the planet she can look in the mirror and understand who is facing her--then an apology to the people of Louisiana would be in order.

I'm sure the polls have been looking bad along with a lot of bad publicity over the past year or so factored into the decision. My guess is that nothing big was promised but a meeting with the party leaders or info from them convinced her she wasn't going to be backed by the party. Remember a couple of weeks ago it was announced that John Breaux may seek the governorship but he'd not make any decision/announcement until after a face to face with Blanco. I don't know that the meeting occurred but I'm sure such a meeting was weighing on Blanco's mind and thus the decision not to run.

Breaux may not run or even want to run and the threat to run may have been a ploy to get Blanco to step out so there wouldn't be an incumbent from their party running. Speculation on my part only.

Breaux has done this before, hem and haw about seeking the governor's mansion and finally not doing it. It could be more of the same.

I'm sure it's so the Dems can run a candidate with a chance of winning. It's the standard tactic

Well good for them. Learn from you opponents. The goal is team wins, not individuals ones. A badly damaged incumbent should be encouraged to step aside rather than being given free reign to run and lose.

Would that the GOP had as good party discipline.

When he does announce- Breaux, I mean- the question everyone should ask is- "Why step down from the Senate to a Governorship?"
In any other state but LA it wouldn't make sense, but here it does. There's a HELLUVA lot more money and personal power to be had as Governor of LA, that's why!

( Bush is NOT MY president, he stole the election).

What an ignorant post. Everybody knows that Al Gore tried to steal it with the help of the media and the hacks of the Florida Supreme whackjobs. Democrats hardly know what an honest election is.

Sarge!

THe bracketed comment was what Blanc-ho's attitude was. She would not sign over command of the Louisiana National Guard to the President, so that FEMA could have them distribute Aid to Katrina victims. Why is this fact so little known?

Blanc-ho refused to treat Bush as a legitimate President, and wasted millions of bucks in perishable aid. Then the Ho blamed FEMA for it.

Of course I agree with ya Sarge, Gore is the one who tried to steal the election. The Dems are experts at blaming the opposition for their own damn blunders.
