(IsraelNN.com) More than 7,000 French Jews have signed a petition asking for political asylum in the United States because of anti-Semitism in France. The petition makes pointed reference to the murder of Ilan Halimi, a 23-year-old Parisian Jew who was kidnapped and tortured to death last year by an anti-Semitic gang, and says that "following the barbarous murder of a young Jew because he was Jewish, in the context of the rise in anti-Semitic acts committed by Islamic fundamentalists, numerous members of the community no longer feel safe in France."
The petition was sent to the U.S. Congress and asks it to enact a law according French Jews refugee status.
Some French Jewish leaders were outraged: "This petition is bizarre, stupid and out of place," said Chaim Musicant, director of CRIF, the umbrella organization of secular French Jewish groups.
What they've expirienced, is what happens when soules and godless socialism is allowed to flourish.
They are reaping what they themselves, helped sow.
They should stay and fight back.
It's not going to reach France. The Nordics are a different culture. They have hashish bars in Amsterdam. It will not happen in Paris.
There has always been prostitution in France, and always will be, but the state is not going to regularize it.
No Comprende.
It's also not true.
They are reaping what they themselves, helped sow.
I do not agree with that. I don't believe the Jews of France wanted to bring in masses of middle eastern and African Arabic Muslims for the purposes of cheap labor into France. Nor do I believe that the Jews of France agreed to soul-less and godless socialism. They are a minor population in France being less than 800,000 total. They are neither responsible for the hatred of Muslims for Jews, nor are they responsible for the Hatred of others in France for Jews over time.
About twenty years ago,I worked in Human Resources in a government entity. A security guard applied for a leave of absence to go to Israel and serve in the army. He was a dual citizen. The department did not want to grant it,the employee appealed to the entity's attorneys and after much deliberation, the attorneys said his leave should be granted. The department was left short staffed and furious. Life goes on and I forgot all about it.
Nonetheless, while not on the front burner,I have noted several especially egregious incidents wherein the dual citizenship has been used to shelter criminals. The persons suspected or charged with misdoings were secreted to Israel and remain out of reach of authorities. This has occurred with Americans as well as Russians.
With so much going on I lost focus on the subject until I saw this article and remembered how confused the whole immigration problem is and how the dual citizenship only makes the whole situation even more disturbing and disruptive.
It is time to be proactive, we waste a lot of time in this country chasing the runaway carts with the horses that should have been pulling them.
Incidentally,my interest was also piqued several years ago when I heard that Mexicans were going to permit Mexican citizens in the States to vote in Mexico. I was shocked and irate. In talking to other Arizonans about it I was told this was no different than what Israelis did, this reminded me of the "leave of absence" event I had experienced. All in all,I think the time has come to seriously look at this situation.
Any thoughts?
Ah. Cool. I thought you were trying to say anti-dhimmitude (which I am as well, as well as being anti-Democrat), but wasn't sure.
And yeah, once you have to explain a joke, the best you can hope for is the perfunctory acknowledgement laugh.
Their political awakening came in the Great Depression and late 1920s as poor immigrants, in the context of labour strikes and the New Deal and country club anti-Semitism.
Combine with that a long lived populace (Jews are generally speaking long-lived), a respect for elders, a tendency to be fairly insular and run in their own circles and to be notoriously stubborn and focussed on tradition, combine that with the idea that most American Jews are, have traditionally been and are descended from mostly urbanites, tend to be highly educated (and much of that in the liberal arts, which is not so misleadingly named), have a religious and moral obligation to help the poor (and providing that, since many of them are now secular, or Reform, they misunderstand that religious/moral obligation), and it becomes clear.
Also consider the Jews who would be, historically, more likely to be conservative are either not poltiically active, or moved to Israel. Orthodox traditionally have not voted in such high numbers as more secular Jews. Politically conservative secular Jews are historically rare in America, although they have a steady presence in America since pre-Revolutionary times, and many immigrated to Israel.
What has changed is that the Soviet Jews know first hand how bad socialism can be. The Orthodox Jews are more likely to vote these days, and they're just as anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage as Christian evangelicals. Young Jews, like yours truly, are less likely to accept the voting traditions of the past three generations as gospel, and look for themselves what party suits their interests best. And many generally find those to be the Republicans. I think something like 59% of Jews under 30 voted for Bush in 2000. Even if it wasn't that high, it was a much more conservatively skewed sample than the Jewish population as a whole.
These kinds of things, especially with the Jewish community, do not change overnight. They begin as a trickle and only gradually increase, until a tipping point is reached, at which point things begin changing rapidly.
Generally, with a few exceptions, about 75% of Jews vote Democrat. This skews differently for different sub-samples. Orthodox and younger Jews are MUCH more likely to trend Republican. Reagan also picked up a fair number of Jewish votes, especially considering he was a Republican.
Very informative! I'm glad you took the time to present some background. Thank you much!
Happy to help. ;p
It's a common question here, and one I should rely just have a standard c+p job ready for. Because there is a solid answer for why, and it does make sense, if you conside the question and answer in a historical context.
Things tend to be certain ways for a reason. For example, why are Christians in the U.S. generally fiscally conservative? Whereas, in Europe and most other parts of the world, they are likely to be fiscally left wing? (Ever hear of the Christian Left, in Europe? Very socially conservative and fiscally social-democratic.) The answer has to do with free soilers in the 19th century, the rise of the socio-economic position of Evangelical Christians since the 1950s and their rise in the importance of American religious life since the early 20th century.
7,000 and they will likely be able to support themselves. Let 'em in.
Oh, there are a lot of Frenchies here in Southern California too...
I don't believe the numbers because of the variations on how surveys determine who is "jewish." I think a recent Brandeis survey included anyone with a jewish last name. The thing is, what exactly is being quantified in a poll of Jewish voters? People who practice Judaism? People raise in the Jewish religion? People who practice Budhism but are actually Jewish? Because my personal impression is that people who personally identify as Jewish do NOT vote 80% democrat. Plus, the numbers are skewed by seniors who are still voting for Roosevelt.
Don't be confusing the anti-semites with the facts.
"Don't be confusing the anti-semites with the facts."
OK, big boy, where did I say anything about being anti-Semite? I'm basically repeating something which I have always heard. That being that Jews vote for Dems 80% of the time. How is that anti-Semite?
Or are you just wanting to call people names?
The voting pattern of Jews in France is totally different from that of Jews in the US.
80% of the Jewish population of France votes consistently Right. The other 20% votes Socialist or worse.
Just a note for the record. Jonah Goldberg is the son of Lucianne Goldberg and her husband, the late Sidney Goldberg.
"OK, big boy, where did I say anything about being anti-Semite?"
When you said this:
"Why would we want another 7000 liberals in the US?"
It's a tired canard that all Jews are liberals, especially ignorant when referring to Orthodox (which these are almost certain to be, given that Reform is a largely English-speaking country phenomia).
It's an especially foul statement because the exact same excuse was used by anti-semites in the 1930's to prevent German and low-country Jews from immigration to the US (except Jews were all called as communists AND socialists), sending so many to the gas chambers.
The voting patterns of Jews are not much different than Roman Catholics. Do you also propose banning immigration of Roman Catholics? (You know, because Ted Kennedy and Jon Carey and Nancy Pelosi are all Roman Catholics.)
