Draft Fred Thompson for President
For the good of the conservative movement, GOPUSA urges former Sen. Fred Dalton Thompson to enter the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
We need someone in the mold of Ronald Reagan who can bring the Republican Party together and lead through conservative principles.
We, the undersigned, urge Mr. Thompson to enter the race to be the next president of the United States!
Sincerely,
ping
Not too late..not too early...I'd say just about RIGHT:)
Run, Fred, RUN! He's the Real Deal:)
FRED is GREAT and I'll be voting for the R candidate no matter who it is. However, we should keep in mind his record. Obviously everyone has some baggage.
I have mixed emotions since he supports McCain. Also, I will never forget the wimpy job he did as CHAIRMAN of the Governmental Affairs Committee, with John Glenn as minority head, while investigating the Clinton administration and foreign campaign money (like Chinese). Fred just caved in to John Glenn (minority head) Glenn overpower him on the Clinton position. Consequently, John Glenn's payoff was to ride on the Space Shuttle as the oldest Astronaut on some aging mission. It was a payoff, thanks to the poor performance of Fred Thompson.
Would he be as wimpy against the Islamofacists? It's time to have an SOB as president so we can maintain a non politically correct country
i hope to god he runs because i cant hold my nose anymore......its starting to hurt
Paul Harvey....did you say Paul Harvey? Were you all sitting around your Victorola listening to him after the Howdy Doody Show? The fact that Thompson is on Paul Harvey kinda makes me worry that he might be a little stale. I worry that Thompson will be another Bob Dole.
Here's an article I found
1997
IN a March 3 memo, the Senior Minority Counsel on the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee outlines for Sen. John Glenn (Ohio) what he hopes will be the ranking Democrat's contribution to the Asiagate investigation -- 11 subpoenas on conservative activist groups. The list, since forwarded to committee chairman Fred Thompson (R., Tenn.), reads like a "Who's Who" of the conservative movement, including Citizens for a Sound Economy, the Christian Coalition, and Grover Norquist's Americans for Tax Reform.
In mid March, Senate Republicans agreed to open the door to this potential harassment of their allies after a high-stakes battle over the scope of Sen. Thompson's investigation. Thompson, the hulking 54-year-old former actor who looks the part of a President and wants to play one in real life, laid the predicate for this in February by acceding to the demands of Democrats for an investigation broad enough to include a hunt for GOP wrongdoing.
This set off alarm bells among his Republican colleagues, who fear he will keep stoking his amazing media hype by playing the bi-partisan reformer at their expense. So, privately, they discussed shutting Thompson down and, instead, hoping for an independent counsel.
He'll get money and a vote from me.

LOL.
But I'd still vote for Fred.
I'm trying to ignore the races but I'm really curious about one statistic I heard....
Is it true that the majority of elected presidents have actually been governors of some kind? (Senators usually don't make the cut?)
;D
Eisenhower was a General. John F Kennedy was a Senator as was LBJ. Nixon was a Representative and VP. Ford was a Representative. Carter was a mistake in any form. Reagan was a Governor but GHWB was a CIA Director and VP. Clinton was a corrupt small-town crook that rose to the Governorship of a corrupt little state. GWB was a short-time governor.
Nothing wrong with being a popular Senator that has an 88% ACU rating.
That kind of condescending attitude is why liberals always underestimate red state conservatism. It happened in 2000, and again in 2004.
I just donated yesterday.
