Now there is an idea...nominate one of the few candidates with as many negatives as Hitlary. I respect Newt, and I suspect that beneath the smear of scandals he is a principled person, there is NO WAY that the American public votes for him.

Y'know, even if Newt doesn't grab the ring, his presence alone will help define the issues. When there's a meeting and Newt's there, he's always the smartest guy in the room.

He is a force to be reckoned with.... I expect that, if he enters the race, he will come out on top or in second place. There is no other candidate who is his equal intellectually, in political skill or in his commitment to moving America forward.

Certainly he starts off with high negatives but so did Reagan -- we need a candidate who is strong enough to keep Hillary or the Main Stream Media from setting the agenda for the campaign. He will have little difficultly raising the money needed should he enter the race -- he is a force of nature.

Thanks for the ping. This is a pretty uplifting and pro-Newt article. All I can say is "Keep it up Newt and Go Newt Go!"

From the article...

"Newt has never run for president and has never been closely associated with a presidential campaign," says one D.C.-based Republican consultant. "I don't see how you raise the money to become competitive. Gephardt won Iowa in 1988, came second in New Hampshire, but couldn't take advantage of it because he didn't have the money. If they don't have any money to build on their victory, it won't be of much use."

It's patently obvious but still needs to be said...Newt is NOT another Gephardt!

You're right and even if he runs but doesn't win his presence in the race will elevate the level of our discourse and assure a fair hearing for conservative principles.

Can you imagine him debating Hitlary? It would be so lopsided people would feel sorry for that shrew.

Good points. The last thing the conservative movement needs is a leader who cannot persuade on the issues that clearly benefit our nation, or is too shy to try. Make the arguments convincingly, and the votes will follow, as Ronald Reagan proved.

Newt said he was "salivating" at the idea of public debates with Hillary. hahaha.... He would crush her on every subject. .....and he would publicly force her into his 9, 90 minute televised/webcast debates for the whole country to see. It would be so openly clear to the American people that Newt would be a better president, even Democrats vote for him.

He wants to run the primaries this way as well. Giuliani has already signed on to the idea.

If he does nothing more, Newt would be a hero for smashing the League Of Women Voters "debate" farce, which is a really shameful circus not befitting the world's #1 democratic government.

I am 51 years old. I remember Jimmy Carter well. I am not interested in "Peace in our time." I am only interested in "Victory in our time." Only with victory in my time will my 15 y.o. twins enjoy peace in their time.
We will not win just because there is an R in the White House, and Newt realizes this. We need all 511,000 or so offices filled with true conservatives to win the war for civilization.

You are correct. I will admit, that even as a huge Newt supporter and follower, the chances of him even winning the nomination are not great.

However, with him in the race he will indeed have a huge impact on the process that will bode well for the few real conservatives left in the GOP and the nation at large.

I hope he runs.

Newt is finished. He just submitted a brief in support of Congressman Jefferson against the FBI on his DC Office. Stick a fork in him...as much as I love Mr. Newt, he just blew it big time. No excuse.
