Bush will appoint someone even more spineless, even more incompetent, or both.

Maybe an illegal relative of Calderon? They're here, you know. Doing the jobs American Attorney Generals aren't doing.

Yes, we now assume there are sleeper cells--perhaps many sleeper cells. We've seen how the two-guys-with-one-rifle cell called The DC Sniper could disrupt matters, and so must concede the sleepers have leverage far beyond their numbers.

The leverage of a sleeper cell can be massive. For example, imagine a sleeper cell releasing a killer virus in the Chicago subway, a virus with a latency of a day or so. It would spread rapidly by air travel, infecting and killing millions before the government could react. In these circumstances, a government would be irresponsible if it didn't immediately declare martial law.

Would an Iranian Twelver regime do such a thing? They'd be apostates if they didn't. An open war with such an apocalyptic regime will inspire them to use every last weapon in their arsenal, with no holds barred.

Perhaps Bush has intelligence reports of these sleeper cells, as well as Iran's biological weapons capabilities. If he does, then it could very well explain his strange disinterest in domestic politics.

I have to admit, your faux anger is laughable. I've witnessed it many times by many posters on FR.

well keep laughing - and keep losing elections.

If the GOP isn't gonna lead, don't expect people to follow. And if the GOP is gonna behave like a bunch of wimps, expect people to run way.

One problem with your thesis. If Bush knows these "sleeper cells" have or are invading our country why the hell does he steadfastly refuse to secure our borders?

I realize that you don't live in an area with many high-activity airports, but I'm sure if you did, you'd realize the disaster the TSA has become.

The last time I flew, an international flight to Amsterdam, was back in December. Average wait time at the height of traffic (at Minneapolis/St. Paul International) was 5 minutes, tops. I wasn't bothered or fazed by the new liquid container regulation. I stuck all my large liquid bottles of soap, shampoo, toothpaste, shaving cream, into my checked in baggage. Nor was I bothered by the 52 pound limit of my luggage, even though my luggage weighed about 46 pounds.

You're biggest beef has been with Mineta. Always has been.

Waxman certainly wasn't undeterred from his ultimate goal after the smackdown he got from Victoria Toensing.

The two Russian generals explained they had not come to Baghdad to "drink coffee".

Ken Alibek, the defecting former director, is adamant that the former Soviet Union's Biopreparat was never dismantled; has tens of sealed sites (cities) to this day.

We could be facing the life-imitated-by-the-art-of-24 nightmare world of Jack Bauer.

According to Melanie Phillips' Londonistan, London is a factory for producing jihadists, recruiting young Muslim men who are initially trained in Britain, then sent overseas for military and terrorist training.

And, of course, Iran is still "the premier state sponsor of Islamoterrorism".

The neo-Hitler has issued a series of virtual excerpts of his sequel to Mein Kampf.

The power elite of Iran views chaos in the form of a multilateral asymmetrical attack on the West as the initiator of the much-desired return of the Twelfth Imam.

Some posit Hussein Obama as part of the scenario.

The enemy has a freer hand if the next commander-in-chief is a kumbaya useful idiot if not a madrassa Manchurian candidate.

The other-than-Mexicans from countries of concern number in the hundreds if not the thousands per Mueller; training of Middle Eastern men in language and cultural traits to pass as Mexicans has been alleged.

We may be sitting on a volcano dimly perceived as a hill of fire ants.

I like your approach to the Gonzales situation. And I would also like for the President to say, as he turns to walk away, that he has just signed a pardon for Scooter Libby. Throwing down the gauntlet would make him feel so much better and me too!! Plus, the RATS would be diverted from whatever scandals are on their 'to do' list, for a day or so anyway.
I would like to see Victoria Tonsing in the Atty Genl job if Gonzales does go.

Gonzales should have come out swinging at the beginning of this -- citing what Clinton did and saying what they were doing was on a much lesser scale -- and left the performance thing out of it.

The dims won't be satisfied with just Gonzales. They will then go after Rove.

(They already hit the Vice President's office.)

Then Bush.

Come on guys, stand up and fight!

Well, the last three flights I've taken, all domestic, were out of Newark, JFK, and Laguardia, respectively. I'd kill someone in front of their Mama for a 5-minute wait for security there. Out here, there was much less agita involved when private firms cleared you rather than these incompetent government goons.

The Liberals have played a poisonous political game where perspective becomes the reality. Conservatives will lose a great deal if they do not find a way to save this AG. Not only will the witch hunt not end it will increase until Joe America thinks Conservatives are all evil wrongdoers. ....

I'll bet those domestic flights weren't during the busy holiday season.

And oh yeah, we had a Muslim cab driver take us from the train station to our hotel next to the airport in Minneapolis. He gave us a tour of the city and didn't charge us for it. When we got to the hotel, to unload our bags from his van, he gave us his personal cell phone number and wanted us to call him when we got back from Denmark, so he would get us from the airport back to the train station.

What is wrong with the Republicans? Can't they fight? Everyone of them is going to go down in defeat without even a struggle.

Unwillingness to strike back at the rabid Democrats has been a trait of spineless Republicans long before the Bush Administration took over. Even, at a local level.

I remember a meeting of our county Republican committee many years ago where I did a presentation showing what we needed to do to win local elections. Thought our county chairman would have a heart attack. He stated and I quote: "If we organize and do any of the things you purpose the Democrats will jump all over us!"

I stood there with my "who cares what the Dims think" look on my face and others in the room did the same. Only a couple of people with spines backed me up and I left the meeting in disgust. I stopped working in campaigns for many years because the party didn't want to fight back against the Dems for their lies and personal attacks on Republican candidates.

One of the reason Republicans are weak in our county is because we have never had but a handful that was willing to take the fight to the Democrats. Most always, in my county anyway, the county chairmanship goes to some influential business man who is afraid that anything negative will hurt his financial statement.

We have problems finding any Republican who will run for public office in the county. We are unable to fill all the precinct committeeman positions. I think we have 6 right now and should have 16 plus sixteen vice committemen.

The past 2 county chairmen we have had are willing to take the fight to the Dems but we have been weakened as a party to the point that there is only about 4 of us to back them up. It's impossible to do much with so few.

Gonzales should never have been confirmed for position of attorney general by the congress. It was clear from the beginning that he was nothing more than a "yes" man for Bush and that he was endowed with the scruples of a Mexican street gang.

Example being; if Bush wanted to circumvent a law, Gonzales would find a way for him to do it. Attorney General Gonzales was never there for the American people.

With the arrogance of Bush, Rove and Gonzales, and with all the foreign entanglements we currently find ourselves involved with, militarily, as well as economically, it appears the White House is really at war with the American people.
