A day after he implied that Ireland should not follow New York Citys example and pass a ban on smoking in all workplaces, Rudolph Giuliani called Mayor Michael Bloomberg to say that was not what he meant.
Bloomberg said the former mayor told him that he meant that Ireland, which currently has no smoking restrictions, should begin to restrict smoking slowly, rather than all at once.
He just thought that sometimes you go partways to get there, let people adjust and then go the rest of the way, Bloomberg said yesterday.
Giuliani said that it made more sense to restrict smoking to certain areas.
Those with no brain at all want the government to control their choices and everyone else's.
No kidding. I wish I had the "freedom" to drive on St. Paddy's day weekend without having to dodge drunk drivers who reek of stale green beer. /s
"Freedom is not having to stink like you."
I don't smoke. Never have. Never will. I hate the smell of smoke. I avoid going to bars and casinos where I will be exposed to it.
Freedom is the bar owner getting to decide their own smoking policy.
Freedom is you choosing to go to a bar where they allow smoking, one where they don't, or to go somewhere else or stay home.
Freedom isn't getting the government to pass laws that infringe on another person's rights just because it makes your life a little more convenient.
What would you expect form a conservative whose purpose in the primary is to see a conservative win? Ignore his history?
It is precisely the sugar coated history that the Rudy fans constantly point out to justify supporting him.
And if you know of a campaign that wants to pay me for doing this, I'm all ears!
I've decided that to not vote for Rudy a little at a time. For the greater good of my fellow Conservatives. Sorry but it's for your own good.
That's a very safe bet, considering how brisk alcohol consumption was during prohibition.
Not nearly as scary as Rudy's take on confiscating cars from folks ACQUITTED of crimes.
Wow. You've sure got a lot of willpower and self-control!! Very impressive.
Let's hope, then, that the government can ban fatty foods, alcohol, guns, violent movies, loud music, and anything else that could POSSIBLY harm our health.
Yep, with a 'BIG GOVERNMENT KNOWS BEST" philosophy like yours,,,,just think of how much better our lives would be!!! (rolling eyes)
I would have politely told the person sticking a gun to your head and forcing you to go to the bar to please stop - it was making you stink.
Have YOU ever tried to quit smoking, or were you smart enough to never start?
"See post #41."
Why? So I can see yet more proof that you're a nanny state loving liberal?
Saturday night it dawned on me how happy I really am that I don't regularly tend bar on Saturday nights any longer. I would not have wanted to be on the road after places started closing.
Didn't you see? You must have less than half a brain, otherwise you'd want to quit!
Glad to see you finally admit that you're half-brained.
I find that position to be not be in keeping with the idea of smaller government and less intrusion that is supposedly the backbone of conservatism.
Boggles the mind.
Sure is.
Right. And you have seen plenty of drinkers in your days. I would rather be around a smoker than someone who is a goofball or dangerous drunk any day. I would not want to go to a bar and spend a lot more money on alchol if I could relax at home with buying my own alcohol cheaper (that's if I drank).
That's right, I do. Can't be playing with a full deck AND smoke.
