FLUSHING, Mich. - A nasty bite on the hand that a man got from his sister's Siamese cat is worth $122,400.

A jury on Friday awarded Michael Sabo, 57, the money for an injury he got when the cat, Randy, bit his right hand in March 2004.

Sabo's fingers swelled so much that they looked like "plump hot dogs," his attorney, Tom Pabst, told The Flint Journal, and an infection put Sabo in a hospital for three weeks. He had to pay thousands in medical bills.

Pabst said Sabo's sister, Jean Toney, had warned people not to pick up Randy because he had bitten people before, but the newspaper said the cat leapt into Sabo's lap.

Sabo initially tried to get his sister's homeowner's insurance policy to cover the cost of treatment. When that request was refused, Sabo had no choice but to take the matter to court, Pabst said.

As I think about this I can see my B-I-L doing something like this. I can also see me smiling across from him during Thanksgiving dinner with the carving knife in my hand...

How much you want to bet he was too embarrassed to go to the Dr. for the bite right after it happened and waited until the infection set in really good before he finally went. I bet 90% of the problem was his macho laziness.

It was a very bad day for the USA when lawyers were allowed to start advertising on TV.

Can you spell "Mesothelioma"?

Not necessarily. Many crooked lawyer scams like this one involve one family member suing another. It is the insurance company (read me and you and other consumers) who actually pay.

I never watch much daytime television, so last week when I took a day off with the flu it seemed like every other commercial was of some huckster lawyer looking to add people to his class action suit, or to swear he can get you more for you injury than any other lawyer.

*sigh* they even advertise in Mexicanish for those who don't speak English now...

This happened to me a few years ago. Girl's cat chomped on my hand.....I figured it was nothing until 2 days later when my hand swelled up....put in hospital for 2 days of IV antibiotics.

Evidently, cats have really nasty mouths....Pasteurella infections.

On the good note......I went to the Emergency room at a major hospital in Boston for this cat-bite infection and they whisked me right past all the illegal aliens.

Not necessarily. His medical insurance probably refused the bills, and her homeowners' insurance probably also refused the bills.

It's probably nothing personal, but the only way the brother can get the sister's insurance company to pay up is to sue her.

It's an effed up system.

Artist: Ted Nugent Lyrics
Song: Cat Scratch Fever Lyrics

Well I don't know where they come from
But they sure do come
I hope they comin' for me
And I don't know how they do it
But they sure do it good
I hope they doin' it for free

They give me cat scratch fever
Cat scratch fever

The first time that I got it
I was just ten years old
I got it from some kitty next foor
I went and see the Dr. and
He gave me the cure
I think I got it some more

They give me cat scratch fever
Cat scratch fever

It's nothin dangerous
I feel no pain
I've got to ch-ch-change
You know you got it when you're going insane
It makes a grown man cryin' cryin'
Won't you make my bed

I make the pussy purr with
The stroke of my hand
They know they gettin' it from me
They know just where to go
When they need their lovin man
They know I do it for free

They give me cat scratch fever
Cat scratch fever
