10 low-cost locales where jobs are plenty
MSN Money/MSN Real Estate ^ | 16 March 2007 | By Melinda Fulmer

If you're looking for areas with a low cost of living, good job prospects and a high quality of life, here are 10 best bets to research.

Cities such as New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles might be great places to jump-start your career, but their high cost of living can break the bank for many grads and young families.

Some of the best places to live and work may be smaller so-called flyover cities such as Fayetteville, Ark., Blacksburg, Va., or Logan, Utah, according to Bert Sperling of Sperling's Best Places.

He has put together a list of the top 10 affordable job powerhouses for MSN Real Estate: places where the cost of living and unemployment are low and the number of jobs is growing steadily.

Interesting that all 10 of these cities were in states that went red in the 2004 election, and 7 of those were solidly red. Does that tell you anything?

[OK, Moorhead, the lesser city in Fargo-Moorhead was in a blue state, but Clay County of Minnesota where it is located was red-- despite the solid moonbat presence on campus in this college town.]

Doesn't list Fort Worth, Texas. Do we get demerits because of proximity to dallas?

Right now I've been trying to hire 3 people for almost 2 months, but the oilfields are so busy there's nobody left.

West TX is booming.

See that, Yankees, Texas isn't on the list...

Logan, Utah is one of my favorite places!

I'd hire two architects TODAY if there were any out there. We can't even find a drafter.

I blame it all on Bush.

Too late, I've already bought my OK house and am in the process of moving. But you're right, there's nothing there. I certainly wouldn't recomend anyone else moving there.

LOL!

I've noticed a pattern, here on FR...

On this sort of thread focus on the "nothing to see here, this place stinks!" statements.

Just sayin'...

I'd jump at that, but I am an Enterprise Architect.

And no, I don't design space ships! :-)

Sounds like its time for me and the 27 members of my immediate family to move to OK. I'll be working--I think-- but they want to know: "Hows those welfare benefits in Oklahoma?" <(;)

Right now I've been trying to hire 3 people for almost 2 months, but the oilfields are so busy there's nobody left.

West TX is booming.

So is Southwest Wyoming. Entry level, unskilled work in mines, oil or gas is in the $17-20 / hour neighborhood. Those with experience can expect much more.
