Quite a scam....like investing in bogus diamond mines or participating in one of those Nigeria "investment" cons.

"Then she paid $150 to e-BlueHorizons.com"

1) Like buying 'indulgences' from the church

2) SHE ACTUALLY SENT THEM MONEY

2) I need to set up a website like this

"Last year, Demetry says she was "rocked" by watching Al Gore's Oscar-winning global warming documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth." She had already persuaded her fiance , Arthur, to invest in new energy-efficient windows in their two-story home. After she saw the movie, the couple installed a more efficient furnace and boiler and replaced conventional light bulbs with energy-efficient ones. But it was impossible to get their emissions to zero, so Demetry decided to do what Gore does: offset the rest."

SEC, take note. AlGore's movie was little more than a sales gimmick for the fund he's connected with. Little different from the infomercials that rule the night on most cable channels (can someone come up with offsets for those?).

But Demetry’s money did not make as much difference as she thought it would. While half of it went to plant trees to absorb carbon dioxide, the other half went to a Bethlehem, N.H., facility that destroys methane — a gas that contributes to global warming. The facility has been operating since 2001 — years before the company began selling offsets — and Demetry’s money did not lead the company to destroy any more methane than it would have anyway.

Moreover, the project received a “dirty dozen” award from a New England environmental group in 2004 because it burns the methane as fuel to incinerate contaminated water from the landfill, emitting tons of pollution each year in the process. This method of destroying methane can emit more pollution than other burning methods

I like Glenn Beck's answer to this. The U.N. (there's that 'authority' pull for the lefties) says that raising animals for food contributes more green-house gasses to the atmoshphere than all of the cars and trucks in the world combined.

Therefore, I plan to set up a website to accept contributions from these gullible schmucks. For every $100 I receive, I will forego my usual ribeye steak dinner, and have a salad.

I'm lovin' this.

I got so incensed with all this offset business to help with the guilt of over-consumption,,,, that I built a website specifically so WE (the little guy)could buy offsets and send them TO the rich and to celebrities so they could walk the walk.

Enjoy!!!! CELEBRITY CARBON OFFSET.

Carbon credits via Kyoto - pay developing nations not to develop. Now that's liberal elitism at it's best. Perhaps Kyoto should be renamed Environmental Colonialism.

People need to understand that buying offsets is a scam. Take the cash and do something meaningful which will be helpful to your own pocketbook as well as the environment. Buy efficient appliances, bulbs, cars, solar power, geothermal, weatherize your home, buy stock in some innovative company that looks promising, and turn the dam light off if your not using it. If it feels good buying offsets (good money out the window) imagine actually saving or making some cash in the process. People who buy or invest properly in the environment should see the results, even if its over the long term.

what i love is they are (as in carbon trading companies) investing in forests. forests are carbon neutral. dying tress return all their carbon they have absorbed and tropical forests are oxygen neutral (remember the dying amazon, lungs of the world myth)..

BS piled on BS...which coincidently produces methane...

it is amazing people who would appear to have a brain are falling for this hook line and sinker...
