BARNET, VT. -- Sara Demetry thought she had found a way to atone for her personal contribution to global warming.
The psychotherapist clicked on a website that helped her calculate how much heat-trapping carbon dioxide she and her fiance emitted each year, mostly by driving and heating their home. Then she paid $150 to e-BlueHorizons.com, a company that promises to offset emissions

Quite a scam....like investing in bogus diamond mines or participating in one of those Nigeria "investment" cons.
"Carbon Offsets"; the Snake Oil of the 21st Century..
Will lighting farts help? I'll send her a box of strike anywhere matches.
Carbon is the new gullible...
1) Like buying 'indulgences' from the church
2) SHE ACTUALLY SENT THEM MONEY
2) I need to set up a website like this
SEC, take note. AlGore's movie was little more than a sales gimmick for the fund he's connected with. Little different from the infomercials that rule the night on most cable channels (can someone come up with offsets for those?).
But Demetrys money did not make as much difference as she thought it would. While half of it went to plant trees to absorb carbon dioxide, the other half went to a Bethlehem, N.H., facility that destroys methane a gas that contributes to global warming. The facility has been operating since 2001 years before the company began selling offsets and Demetrys money did not lead the company to destroy any more methane than it would have anyway.
Moreover, the project received a dirty dozen award from a New England environmental group in 2004 because it burns the methane as fuel to incinerate contaminated water from the landfill, emitting tons of pollution each year in the process. This method of destroying methane can emit more pollution than other burning methods
I think these guilt -ridden types need to be aware of the hopeless and needless existence they live. The best thing they could do is just eliminate themselves. Think of the savings...
I bought a new furnace last year and had energy efficient windows installed on my house a few years back, but doing so had nothing really to do with global warming...it was to save money on my utility bills. And the windows were much easier to clean than my old sliding aluminum windows.
Carbon Offsets = The New Brooklyn Bridge.
I think she should have to pay another $500 to offset the pollution she contributed to. And this psychotherapist should be ordered into therapy herself to deal with all the guilt she must now have.
She can send me the money....For $150 dollars I'll buy a bag of grass seed and throw it around the side of the highway on the way to work...There....doesn't that make you feel better??
4 yr degree at least and falls for this scam.
"A moron and her money will soon be parted!"
No kidding. I want in, too! LOL!
Therefore, I plan to set up a website to accept contributions from these gullible schmucks. For every $100 I receive, I will forego my usual ribeye steak dinner, and have a salad.
"Hey, Baby,... Why don't you come on over here and let me (whispered italics) set your carbon off!
"There's a Sucker Born Every Minute" (Hannum, not Barnum)
For that sort of person, it's the ultimate reduction of their personal carbon footprint.
