NY TIMES PLANS TUESDAY HIT ON GORE, NEWSROOM SOURCES TELL DRUDGE: 'Scientists argue that Gore's warnings are full of exaggerated claims and startling errors'... Developing..

From a Rapt Audience, a Call to Cool the Hype

"Hollywood has a thing for Al Gore and his three-alarm film on global warming, “An Inconvenient Truth,” which won an Academy Award for best documentary. So do many environmentalists, who praise him as a visionary, and many scientists, who laud him for raising public awareness of climate change.

But part of his scientific audience is uneasy. In talks, articles and blog entries that have appeared since his film and accompanying book came out last year, these scientists argue that some of Mr. Gore’s central points are exaggerated and erroneous. They are alarmed, some say, at what they call his alarmism.

“I don’t want to pick on Al Gore,” Don J. Easterbrook, an emeritus professor of geology at Western Washington University, told hundreds of experts at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America. “But there are a lot of inaccuracies in the statements we are seeing, and we have to temper that with real data.”.."

Gore is a gas bag so every time he opens his pie hole he creates greater global warming.

Yeah, but I wouldn't trust anything that is printed in the NY Times... What a conundrum!

Agree. I guess I'll just play wait & see, but I do have the impression the Global Warming hustlers have overplayed their hand in recent months to the point that even The NY Slimes can't ignore the hypocrisy --- Al Gore, with the Oscar-winning mammoth carbon footprint being the worst of the lot. He's making the other Limo-Libs and Gulfstream Environmentalists look really bad --- especially the tax deductible "Carbon Credits" he buys from himself. If some Republican had a scheme like that going, the Times would be going nuts.

Who at the NYT is on the Clintons' payroll?

No one. They are all indentured servants.

Interesting set of pictures of algore. He was a very handsome young man but time, disappointment and anger/hate has taken their toll on him.

I'd say it was mostly endless stupidity that took it's toll.

I read/edited the story for print in newspaper's edition tomorrow. It's not really a "hit piece," although since it's coming from the NYT you could definitely call it that -- I had to do a double-take and make sure the byline was correct when I read the story. Couldn't believe I was reading something penned from the NYT that carried that kind of tone toward Gore.

To be sure, it's fairly mild, but it does acknowledge that scientists who otherwise are in Gore's corner are saying he's "overblowing a bit" in his global warming march. Says a lot of scientists are bothered that he's botched science, which will give ammunition to the opposition.

If true, the NYT reporters are slower than molassess in January researching Gore's factoids.

Slowness in publishing does not necessarily mean slowness in research. You can bet that the Times has already done a ton of research on conservative candidates which they will only report when the time is right in the election cycle.

The glaciers have been melting since the Ice Age....When did you think they stopped melting? There never has been "stasis" in the climate, which is dependent on many factors especially the variable output of energy from the Sun and changes in the angle of the earth's rotational plane. There is Global Cooling and there is Global Warming. The Earth has no climatalogical baseline, it is always trending one way or the other in constant if unpredictable long-term cycles. Adapt and live.
