NY TIMES PLANS TUESDAY HIT ON GORE, NEWSROOM SOURCES TELL DRUDGE: 'Scientists argue that Gore's warnings are full of exaggerated claims and startling errors'... Developing..

From a Rapt Audience, a Call to Cool the Hype

"Hollywood has a thing for Al Gore and his three-alarm film on global warming, “An Inconvenient Truth,” which won an Academy Award for best documentary. So do many environmentalists, who praise him as a visionary, and many scientists, who laud him for raising public awareness of climate change.

But part of his scientific audience is uneasy. In talks, articles and blog entries that have appeared since his film and accompanying book came out last year, these scientists argue that some of Mr. Gore’s central points are exaggerated and erroneous. They are alarmed, some say, at what they call his alarmism.

“I don’t want to pick on Al Gore,” Don J. Easterbrook, an emeritus professor of geology at Western Washington University, told hundreds of experts at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America. “But there are a lot of inaccuracies in the statements we are seeing, and we have to temper that with real data.”.."

Hmmmmm, interesting, wonder why they haven't done a hit piece on Obama yet?

Oh, I forgot, he is going to be Bill Clinton's wife's running mate.

>>"The truth is that global warming as indicated by glaciers retreating and seas rising is a problem"

If it is not caused by humans, then why is it a problem? <<

The reason that NASA and the NOAA and the NSF etc have been studying this long before Al Gore jumped on board is that the rising sea levels from the thermal expansion of water plus melting ice threatens the coasts of all nations.

But this is a slow process as is the risk of desertification.

But they are real and they are serious. Its amazing how much of human population is near a coast not that far above sea level and how much farming takes place on land without an excess of rain.

We are at a 600,000 year high in temperatures but each of the last four times the earth reached this temperature they have gone back down. So looking for signs about what will happen, together with trying very hard to see if CO2 is connected to the recent rise would seem logical instead of either doing something crazy like the Kyoto or dismissing the whole thing.

It is worth watching. That's the movie I was referring to in post #90. I found it to be about equally honest with Gore's film but it should be seen to understand what both sides are doing - neither extreme is actually looking at what is good science and what is actually good for the American people.

I think I recall learning about the glaciers melting and causing the seas to rise about 20-25 years ago in grade school. But back then it was all about the hole in the Ozone layer caused by all the hairspray in those aerosol cans, you know.

Get with the program would ya?

The Global Warming Sham documentary puts the lie to the Greenhouse effect, not global warming. It accurately points out that changes in global temperatures occur before changes in CO2 levels. IOW, CO2 changes follow temperature changes rather than causing them. I.e. saying humans' CO2 contributions are the cause of global warming is a lie.

It's becoming apparent to those who care more about actual science rather than political science schemes that solar cycles and cosmic radiation are the leading causes of climate change. It's rather likely man's CO2 emissions have zero effect as the cause of global warming.

If anyone wants to buy some "carbon offset credits" just send me your check for $100 per credit..... for every $100 I receive I will promise to avoid traveling via private jet for one day. If everyone sends me enough $$$ I will promise not to travel via private jet for the rest of my life..... you'll feel soooo good ala Algore for buying carbon credits and I will limit my future carbon emissions to far below the levels enjoyed by Albore.

p.s. Since I've never been on a private jet this won't be too much of a hardship for me -- you'll feel good for saying you've bought "carbon offset credits" and I'll feel good spending the money........ that's what we call a win/win. :^)

She's probably promising to make the NYT the official state news organization. Kinda like Pravda.

I AM SO SICK of headlines like
_____ thought to contribute to warming
______ said to contribute to climate change
______ said to me more severe due to warming
WARMING is cased by fraking solar radiation! not capitalism!

--rising sea levels from the thermal expansion of water plus melting ice threatens the coasts of all nations--

The only solution: Tax, tax, and tax some more. Build dikes, dikes, and more dikes. And then build some more.
Hurricane-proof and tsunami-proof dikes. This global effort will provide an endless stream of unionized construction jobs, solve unemployment forever, and distract everyone from the daily task of killing one another./s
