TAMPA -- He's campaigning hard for support from Republican social conservatives, but presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Saturday he disagreed with the government's intervention in the Terri Schiavo case.

"I think it's probably best to leave these kinds of matters in the hands of the courts," Romney said in a television interview airing today.

Upon her wishes. I have a living will that the exact same thing would be done for me. It would be a blessing rather than a curse.

Zarf: the issue wasn't whether the government would provide funds or support for Mrs. Schiavo. She had her own money. That money was legally committed to provide her own support. Moreover, she had parents who were willing to support her from their own resources, regardless of the money.

The question was whether or not she should be killed.

That means tyhat I won't be voting for Mitt.

This no big deal, because the Republicans on this forum say that they don't need Conservatives or Christians to win.

They sis not have many Conservatives or Christians in 2006 and they won big.Didn't they?

Keep pushing abortion and gun control advocates and then nominate one for 2008. That way you will run the Democrats out of Washington DC.

Because this Conservative and Christian will either stay home or vote third party.

I won't vote for the lesser of two evils.

"Upon her wishes"

That was a major point of dispute., There was nothing in writing; it was hearsay; and the hearsay was strongly contested.

I've got to have documentation --- something in writing--- before I can buy an airplane ticket, open a bank account, or get a different prescription lens in my eyeglasses. Why wouldn't you need something in writing before you could take someone else's life?

He likes to see people STARVED TO DEATH??? He will NOT be President...ever!

She was NOT close to dying but her evil and vile husband wanted her DEAD.....sickening.

EternalVigilance distorted the report to suit her agenda! But if you are anti Romney you will agree with her instead of what was really said!

1-At a news conference Monday, Romney said that "one cannot look at the life of Haleigh Poutre without being overwhelmed with sadness. She was not someone who fell through the cracks---doctors and social workers were watching. But errors in judgment were made". CLICK Post #432

2- Back to the Thread Topic Romney says government was wrong in Schiavo case- What is Romney referring too? CLICK Post #435

I am still extremely sad and angry over Terri Schiavo's murder. >:-(

Mrs. Schiavo was murdered? Do the police know about this? Has anyone been charged with her murder?

The question was whether or not she should be killed.

It came down to her husband and her parents. The legal system in every instance ruled in favor of the husband.

That's the system and no amount of judge shopping could change it.

It was a family matter that Congress had no business in....there are thousands of sad situations throughout the country that families are dealing with....this was a show for the base. It was pathetic.

It took multiple years, many court appearances, and the analysis of lots of doctors. It was neither a quick nor capricious call.

I defer to the experts who had access to data/information I will never have.

Mrs. Schiavo was murdered?

She was. As surely as if you didn't give your five-year old water and food and they died.

Do the police know about this?

They were accessories.

Has anyone been charged with her murder?

Nope. But that doesn't make the perps any less guilty.

WOW! I can't believe you didn't realize I was agreeing with RadioAstronomer.

While I don't share the majority view that Michael Schiavo should be drawn and quartered...nor that Mitt Ronmey isn't worthy of being the GOP candidate...I am not a cheerleader for extremists on either side of the issue.

What could be more "extreme" than dehydrating a disabled person to death?

I strongly disagree at the way they went about it you don't starve a person and if her parent wanted the duty than why didn't MS let her folks take over years ago.

He was having an affair and therefore disloyal he is wicked being and did not care.

Evil has no shame!

The dude is right. This was no place for the government to get involved.

Sure. Why should the government get involved in a man's attempt to have his disowned, disabled wive executed by judicial decree?

I understand both sides on this issue. Tough call. Why I defer to the experts in this situation. These types of decisions are being made daily. She just happened to make the news and end up as a political football.

The last time I checked the courts were part of government. They shouldn't be allowed to operate independently as if they were the sole rulers of the nation. Romney doesn't understand that it is the duty of executive and legislative officials to protect people when the courts become arbitrary as they were in Terri's case. A woman does not become the property of her husband when she marries. if a husband violates the marriage contract as Michael did. his ability to control his wife should be ended by someone in government who cares about people.
