Teacher Who Works As 'Stripper' Targeted By School

SARASOTA Co., Fla. - A high school teacher in Florida has been given an ultimatum by administrators – to quit his job, or quit his night job as a “male stripper.”

Jason Brenner is a well-liked teacher at Lemon Bay High School in Charlotte County, Florida. But his night gig, performing in a theater production of ‘The Full Monty,’ is not sitting well with school officials.

By day, Jason Brenner is a well-liked music teacher at Lemon Bay high school in Charlotte County, Florida.

“That’s been my dream ever since I was 13-years-old,” Brenner said. “Everyone who comes to see [this play] is just happier because of the laughs and the fun and the camaraderie.”

The part-time music teacher has a stripping scene in the musical, but administrators say Brenner's actions are not becoming of a teacher.

“The district decided that what I was doing was inappropriate and unethical for the kids,” Brenner said.

“I find it… art,” said one student at Lemon Bay High School. “I don’t understand why expressing yourself on stage is considered inappropriate.”

Some theater goers say the stripping scene comes at the end of the production, and that a bare rear end can only be seen for a couple of seconds.

Brenner is currently on temporary leave, but says he plans to resign.

“It kills me to have to leave them behind, but I’m not going to let someone stop me from my art,” he said.

Saw this on the local news. Yet another reason to homeschool.

"Male stripper"? He strips down from a brown wool sweater? Nah there has to be more to the story than that.

Oh wait a minute, let me look at that "sweater" a little more closely....oh my.

It's a play based on the movie. Ran on Broadway for several years.

Another dedicated NEA member. Perhaps he can convince them to strike.

That's the point of the play. A bunch of unemployed regular guys decide to make money as strippers.

Big difference between being an actual stripper and performing in that play. Haven't seen the play and don't plan on it but the movie was quite good.

“It kills me to have to leave them behind, but I’m not going to let someone stop me from my art,”

Wasn't this a line from "Spinal Tap", "How can I leave this behind?" from "Big Bottom" (?)

Okay, I'm tired of all the fun people make of hirsute men. We can't help our neanderthal genes. It's natural and even if we were to cowtow to the effeminate fashions of this decadent age, we'd spend so much time shaving it that by the time we got to end, it would be growing back and we'd have to start over again! And unlike this guy, most of us have the decency not to go prancing around in our birthday suits. And we expect the same from those baby's-bottom-smooth fellows. Just because they look like pretty young women doesn't mean they should be wandering around in the altogether.

Yes, this is a joke.

"I don't understand why expressing yourself on stage is considered inappropriate."

Well, kid you have a lot to learn still.

Maybe the good folks in Rapid City can explain it better than I can...

or, here:

Just because one is expressing themselves on stage, doesn't mean what they are doing is appropriate behavior, in public or anywhere else.

[In the case of Rapid city, is 'expressing themselves' really the best term to use? Think of the medical definition of 'expressing' a wound or lession, then decide.]
