Don’t Count Out Conservatives (versus Rudy)
Townhall ^ | March 10, 2007 | Nathan Tabor

Posted on 03/10/2007 10:29:04 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

There’s a secret within the news business—a secret probably only veteran reporters and their friends know, but would be loathe to admit—reporters don't really like surprises.

Now, that might seem an odd statement to make about people who make their living pushing news. But the unexpected can really mess up the story you’ve just written, which, in turn, can cause you more work, more stress, and more time at your computer terminal.

As a result of this phenomenon, once the major media have anointed a front-runner for President, they don’t like a maverick honing in on his—or this year, her—territory. They want to defend their choice for a given party's nominee because, if some upstart actually makes a contest out of it, it could play havoc with their work schedules.

Consequently, it's not surprising that the mainstream media would just like to see Republicans anoint Rudolph Giuliani as their standard-bearer and be done with it. After all, he’s leading in public opinion polls, he makes for good copy, and the media can have a field day with his various attempts at cross-dressing.

Well, sure. If Rudy gets the Republican nod then no matter which of the two parties wins the liberals will have a stranglehold on the White House.

You can bet that there WILL be a surprise in the 2008 primaries - whether like McCain in 2000, or Dean in 2004, someone will make it a horse race (at least for a while). With no incumbent running, all bets are off and nothing is guaranteed......

I don't buy the premise. All obituaries for prominent people are already written except for filling in a few blanks. That is why when someone dies, they can have a 5 minute tribute summarizing their life on the tv news within 10-15 minutes. That is because they already did it.

If I were a reporter, I would already have 4-5 stories already written regarding the campaign. However it plays out, I would select the correct "news" story, fill in a few blanks and voila, I'm first with the "news". It is almost like writing an obituary.

It is pretty much the same at the pentagon. They have planned out almost every contingency and when something happens, they usually already have the countermove planned and ready.

It is one thing for the opposition to want someone to RUN. It is another thing for them to want them to actually WIN in the primary. It is much different yet for them to want them to win in the GENERAL election.

Ploys seem to be underway to stealthily--but only temporarily--prop up various GOP 'moderates' until right before or after the primary. Among these ploys are the Hegelian Dialectic or Hobson's Choice that Conservatives MUST choose a 'Moderate' in the primary.

After the primary, the gloves will off against anyone 'moderate' to ensure that the further-Left (D) gets into office.

Those who are more Conservative can continue to stand on and fight for the core American values that Moderates didn't think mattered -- and which will garner the right end of the Bell Curve for the more Conservative candidate.

The last thing the Treason media wants is an "annointment" of Rudy. It would much prefer a down to the wire slugfest for drama and interest.

This "annoinment" is of the same nature as GWB's "annointment" in 2000 and the charge is made by some of the same people who made the prior one. Their credibility has not improved in the interim.

What we have here is a case of those not liking the current situation, Rudy leading, call it an annointment.

Blaming annointment for Rudy's getting a lot of people votes is intellectually dishonest.

This is getting so old. Why don`t we let the voters decide? Its a new concept but, what the hey, lets take a chance. We are killing off our guys for stupid reasons and our reward is going to be 4 or 8 years of Hillorat. All of you that have pet issues, abortion, gun control, family values, what ever, guaranteed that Hillorat has worse plans on all of these important issues then any of our guys.
Lets stop killing our guys , and, instead let them fight it out and then lets support the winner.

Here's a news flash: The vote hasn't been taken yet.

Comparing Rudy to a Demonrat is just absurd. Rudy is a career leftist-slayer. He slayed liberal ideology in NYC, AND in the process, crushed it with a resounding thump. Rudy has what the GOP establishment for the past 20 years hasn't had- fortitude to stick it to the Dem/Libs.

I doubt he'll get through the primaries with all of the smear politics going on now, but I'm backing him. I appreciate the so-called social conservative voice, but, IMHO social issues belong at the state and local level. Rudy already indicated that he will appoint strict constitutionalists to the federal bench- which is the only social issue people should be concerned with at the federal level.

Rest assured Rudy's nominees will pass the senate. The guy is a terrific manager.

Amen and amen-- doesn't it strike any of the Rudy-ites here strangely that the MSM just loooooooves Mr. Guiliani?

I think we can do better than a gun-grabber with seriously questionable moral character.

Sorry, but I would almost rather see Hillorat win than support a traitor, I said almost.

Write at least 3 stories you are guaranteed to never use? And without even a deadline hanging over your head?

That's not the way reporters operate. Hell, it's not even the way I operate, and I have a MUCH stronger work ethic than the average reporter. (And that's not just noise. I work at a newspaper.)

If you are an author, you need to have a bunch of "timely" books in the computer and ready to go.

If I was an author, I would already be working on a book "how we achieved victory in Iraq". I would also be working on a book "why Bush failed in Iraq" and then when the time came, I would need to change a few details and wham, I'm first with the book.

I'll bet someone is doing this right now.

How can Al Gore successfully get past Hillary Clinton? Right now, I still think that she's the front runner for the Democrats.

Attention all you Rudyites: single issue voters didn't win in 06 and they won't win in 08.

And to all you gun nuts please note, it takes more than a president to make a law.
